totally lost with vpn...need some direction please
« on: May 28, 2012, 02:40:02 PM »
I would like to surf the internet, download stuff and upload stuff anonymously. I searched for a free vpn and found one, UltraVPN but the web page to sign up was blank. I have gadmin-openvpn client and server installed. When I open the client, it asks for root password, then says in red lettering "OpenVPN is not installed, or not in your path: Status not activated"   I need to import a package from someone, I guess, but I don't know who.

Can anyone help here?

what version of pclinuxos are you using?

different versions seem to have different entries in user's $PATH

what does this command give you?

stat /usr/sbin/openvpn
.. 3 things are certain in life : death, taxes and software bloat ..
.. tell me something i don't know, something i can use as i struggle to reason with the world around me ..

Okay... Here is what I did...

I paid 11 bucks to 'hidemyass'  well, something in their script calls for the 'sudo' command. as you know, we over here in the 'safe n send' department, do not use sudo. so now I'm still stuck.

have you tried a different client?

pcc can setup openvpn, start pcc->network and internet->configure vpn and follow instructions.

never tried it so i dont know if it works or not.

Did not work.  I think when it asked for 'Gateway' I did not know what to put there.

If you're talking about HideMyAss's VPN, don't they offer any support? Like what gateway IP address to use?
