:) You should thank kjpetrie, too. He created the patch that makes it work with the hardware that has problems with laptop-mode-tools, usb and suspend/hibernate.

Until someone complains it isn't turning the USB subsystem off when on battery and they're losing 2 minutes battery life... ;D

Which settings are best for you depend on your hardware and how you use it. We can try to make the defaults as sensible as we think they should be, but there's no substitute for going through the configuration and setting it up the way you want it - if you can understand what the developers' comments mean, that is!

I've no idea how much extra power a USB chip uses when nothing's plugged in but it's not suspended, but can't imagine it's very much.

I was thinking the same thing.

I did try to edit the configuration file, but didn't get the expected results.  I would have eventually looked into it again but, I'm happy with the defaults now.  Hopefully everyone else will be okay with it.

Sorry Guys.
I have had to remove laptop-mode-tools again.
I updated my repos, and and installed laptop-mode-tools last night, but today I had the same problem as before.
I think it's just me being and awkward old git, O well that's life, to quote Terry Wogon, as one door close another slams in your face.

Which mirror are you using? Which build of laptop-mode-tools is it offering - 1pclos2012 or 2pclos2012?

If it's still 1pclos2012 give it a few more days or change to a mirror which syncs more often.

Hi kjpetrie.
All my repository's are pclinuxos/2010, I installed from the 2012.2 disk.
Now I am even more confused ;D

That is the correct repository. However, mirrors synchronise at different frequencies according to how often their owners think they need to update them, so they are often out of step with each other. That is why you should only use one mirror at a time.

Providing you only have one mirror selected, Synaptic should show the version of laptop-mode-tools installed, and the current version in the repo. Almost certainly by now, that should be laptop-mode-tools-1.60-2pclos2012. The version that gave problems was laptop-mode-tools-1.60-1pclos2012.

I was asking which version the mirror you use was showing, because if it still had the old version that would explain why you still had the problem. If you look in Synaptic history you should be able to see which version you had installed. The key number is the digit before "pclos2012", which is the release or build number. If it was the old release, you should try the new. If it was the new, we will need to investigate further.

Is this solved yet?  Seems like it.  If (and only if) it is solved to the original poster's satisfaction, please edit the subject line in the original post with the [SOLVED] tag?

Thanks,
D
