That is great djohnston, last question, if I install Etherape in the host, will it monitor the traffic of the guest virtual machines also or I have to install one per virtual machine? Sorry if it is an obvious answer.

If you run it on the host, it will also show all network traffic on the VirtualBox VMs. By the way, EtherApe will prompt for the root password to run the GUI.
