<Fixed>Mediatomb
« on: May 26, 2012, 01:35:06 AM »
Hi to all,
Could anyone of you Gurus, explain--in simple terms if possible-- how to get mediatomb to share videos across the network?
The setup seems to be correct, and I am pointed to port 49158, which seems to change quite a bit.
But if I set VLC up to use that port it cannot find anything???
What do I have to set up as well? upnp server?
Your thoughts on this matter gratefully received.
Gezza

It is some time since I used this ......  but here goes ......

The management interface is at

<local IP address>:49152

That is used for selecting the source material, IIRC.

You need to edit   /etc/mediatomb.conf  so that it uses your preferred NIC

MT_INTERFACE="eth0"   (or eth1 or whatever)

Ensure the mediatomb daemon is running -------  PCC - System - Manage System services

The broadcast port is defined in the conf file and defaults at 50500

So, going to your browser at

<local IP address>:50500

Should now show you a selection of media you made available earlier.

Selecting the Database should give you videos to select for playing in your preferred player.

That is about as much as I can recall.

Many thanks, Just18,
That worked but I cannot see the file list from any other computer.
Does the following have anything to do with that?---

Those warnings are telling you that mediatomb cannot handle ISO images .......  so you cannot use it to play an ISO of a DVD or such.

That is something that could be made available, (I am interpreting the warning for this), by selecting an option when the package is being built.
I do not KNOW that is true .....  it is my interpretation of the warning, only.

If you have other PCs on the same LAN segment that cannot load the Mediatomb IP address, then make sure there is no firewall preventing access.

Have a look at logitechmediaserver .......  the latest version does video files in addition to audio files.
