[SOLVED] Thunderbird Notification Sound Plays Fast
« on: May 27, 2012, 02:20:14 PM »
For some reason, my Thunderbird notification sound occasionally plays fast. I thought it might be due to playing a streaming video in Firefox at the same time causing some sort of conflict, but this afternoon I booted up & only had TB open when this occured. Any idea what's causing this? I'm using TB 12.0.1, & the same .wav file as always.

Only sometimes?

Is it possible to post the output from the terminal when you start the program from there?

Yes, it only happens some of the time. Here's what konsole says:

X Error of failed request:  BadRequest (invalid request code or no such operation)
Major opcode of failed request:  136 (GLX)
Minor opcode of failed request:  19 (X_GLXQueryServerString)
Serial number of failed request:  13
Current serial number in output stream:  13

Only sometimes?

Is it possible to post the output from the terminal when you start the program from there?

I see that FF was just updated, so that means TB 13 is on the way.... Fingers crossed that the problem is fixed, but not holding my breath....

Do you use other system sounds?
Same is happening with other wav-files?
And does it work correctly when using the "test" button (if I remember correctly that there is one)

I googled a little bit, but can't find a cause directly  :-\
=> maybe there is something wrong with all system sounds, or there is sth else happening on your pc...

Do you use other system sounds?
Yes, & they work fine at the moment.

No.

Usually.

Well, I've decided to try a shorter .wav clip, so I'll see how that goes. I'm also wondering why I can't use a .wav file from my personal folder in my home directory? When I try, it doesn't play when I press the preview button. This started when TB was upgraded to 13.0.

Hmmm, that's not very user friendly.... I also read that soon Mozilla is handing over TB development to the community, so we'll have to see if that's going to improve or decline things...  8)

Because I can't find a solution too directly, I hope you can get along with another wav file in the near future...
=> Is it possible for TB to use other files than WAV? => maybe converting you sound file works?

Other possibility: add a new user account to the system, and do a test there (although I know it's not very easy to "test" a mail client) with that specific WAV file....
=> but I think that won't make any difference...

And too: if you upload the WAV-file somewhere (minus.com, dropbox, ....), we can test it on our system too if needed....

More, I can't think of - maybe someone else with some wonderful idea?

Well, now that's interesting.... I wonder why?

Nope, it only uses .wav. Maybe that'll change once the community takes over....

I don't think it will, either.

More focus on Firefox (on more platforms)... and no interesting features they can implement anymore (I'd say, just do some things again, but good this time  :D)
- that's all I know  :)

I wonder if the WAV files that won't play have a slightly different format or such?

Have you had a look at a couple of WAV files with MediaInfo to compare them?

Might be interesting if there are differences .....
