Hpmini monitor blank under KDE 2012.02
« on: May 23, 2012, 10:14:13 PM »
Since yesterday I've been trying to start KDE 2012.02 on an Hp Mini netbook
I've tried both live cd from an external USB dvddrive and from a usb stick made with live-usb creator and a 2012.02 iso

Either way boot starts ok and after the three blue/lightblue/white stripes are filled, monitor becomes (white and then)totally blank
The vga port works fine and if I connect an external monitor booting finishes fine and I can work with live

my problem is I cannot make the built-in monitor to become alive again!

I've tried a -buntu light edition and such problem doesnot appear!
also,  I'm quite sure that the very same machine has booted fine with  old KDE 2010 on the very same stick (only Ihad used unetbootin back then)

is this a bug ? How can I boot / install on the hpmini?

Check your BIOS settings. You probably have external video enabled instead of the internal video for the laptop screen.
Bare metal                           VBox
AMD Athlon 7750 Dual-Core    Single core
4GiB RAM                              1GiB RAM
nVidia GeForce FX 5200          64MB video
LXDE 32bit                            KDE 64bit

i have already checked them!
there's not an option for the external plug
and since resolution is lost at first then the screen becomes blank and never comes up again
BUT the plugged monitor is FINE!!(I cannot then change it from there(...x600)-it just not obeys !)
besides
~buntu clones work fine! (and the owner  of the netbook has allready "depreciating" "my" distro over the ~buntu ones!!! ::))
and (i think) old pclos2010 also!!
Is there a command to force "notebook" resolution to all screens maybe?

this is kind of ironic because i recently bought my wife a hp mini with a broken screen ::). the install was done on an external monitor and things went well 8). we did finally get a new screen for it and the same problem happened :-\. well knowing i had done the install from the external monitor and maybe a little coaxing was needed ;) this is what i did: do a complete install using the external monitor,  then during startup stop the boot countdown and select boot options (f3 i believe) select default and type in the word single at the end of the boot string. hit enter and you will be in single user mode. type in pcc, enter to get to the controll center and select the video driver, screen resolution (remember the mini comes with 2 different res screens 1024x600 and 1366x768 i think so find out which one you have) but be sure to select generic flat panel with the proper res. it appeared to me that the screen was being reported as some weird vendor etc and that was the problem. all is good on the wife's hp mini now. :)

thank you loudog
since now I've tried through the external monitor to choose the 1366x768flatpanel  (I've seen that res in WIN playing)
and tried by logging out and then again in but it didn't hold the adjustments
my problem is that the net book is not mine so I cannot install (the owner cannot "permit" installation before seeing it working)
next time I have the net book at hand I'll see if I can do anything!!
my Q is if some one can boot live in some kind "forced" resolution
finally, whats the difference between pclos and ~buntus that lets them work??

I went through the same experiences with a HP mini. Won't work with what we got on hands now.
It MIGHT be working when the new kernel(s) is/are arriving. Patience!  ;)
