The TP - Link W896ON was recommended on another forum - techguy support I think, or maybe geekzone.co.nz, so I googled for reviews. While some were negative most were very positive, especially for the price. Certainly they're priced competitively in NZ.
Set up was easy, but I had to use the ADSL cable which came with the device as the connection dropped off with my old cable. My only criticism so far is the length of this cable, as it's very short. I've had to move the modem/router don from the top of my desk.
Set up was easy, as it comes with a CDROM which uses a flash presentation to guide you through the set up. I have to confess I set it up on a windows desktop PC which I use for Photoshop/camera etc. It can of course be set up via a browser window, and I wouldn't imagine any problems so long as you have your ISP settings. You can always phone the ISP to talk you through the settings in any case.
The laptop with Pclos saw the modem/router immediately and connected beautifully. I'm just updating via synaptic, then when that's done I'll take the laptop around the house to check connectivity. It's definitely a faster connection, as was advertised, being 300Mbps.
I'll post here later regarding reception throughout the house. One of the reviews I read reckoned the signal could be detected from a good distance down the street, but yet to test that.
I should add that I installed the latest KDE download, so it's not Minime any more, but imagine that results would be the same, as it was the router not the PC.
