assign actions to all buttons on my mouse.
« on: May 22, 2012, 05:08:07 AM »
Hi,

I have a mouse with the usual two buttons, roller wheel and also two buttons on the left side one on top of the other. I would like to add actions to the press event of the roller wheel and the two buttons on the side. Is there an app for recognizing all the buttons? Thanks.

The press event of the wheel is the middle button click, and should already be recognized as such. I have a number of mice with the same configuration, and all work, with all buttons functional just by plugging them in, or turning them on. Some have both side buttons on the left side, while others have one on each side. They work as forward and backwards for both browsers and file managers here.

I did nothing to activate the extra buttons, they have just worked with both the liveCD and all my installations. My mice are from either Microsoft or Logitech, some having PS/2 connectors, some USB, and two are wireless. The Logitech wireless mice also have a tilting scroll wheel, for horizontal scrolling. A friend has a similar wireless mouse, from Kensington, and his works out of the box also.

Of what use be there for joy, if not for the sharing thereof?

I have a wireless mouse with 5 extra buttons  make that 7 extra switches.

I figured out 2 of the buttons/switches ....  assigned to back and forward in browser

Two others appear to be for audio vol up and down but definitely don't do that here.

The 5th button is marked CPI ....  and I have no idea what that is supposed to be for.
EDIT:   It seems this button toggles between two (Counts Per Inch) sensitivity settings of the mouse.

Oops ......  just discovered two more switches on the mouse ....  tilting the wheel throws a switch on either side.
EDIT:  Those two are assigned to side scrolling in a browser!

So, I too am interested in how one should assign those switches which appear to do nothing at present .........  or more to the point .....  how to find what they are assigned to so that could be edited by me.
