Dynex DX-DTCAM not working
« on: May 12, 2012, 07:45:04 PM »
I know I've gone a long time, but have a new issue.

My FREE Dynex DX-DTCam isn't working. I have sound and mic with no issues, but the camera itself just refuses to work. Have the drivers and have tried to use them. No success so far. I can't figure out WHERE to put the driver. Any ideas there?

I forgot to mention the camera is USB.

Any ideas? It's much appreciated. Thanks!

what driver, found where?

what app are you using to test the camera?

is it connected in a usb port?  can you post the results of lsub?

this can help us determine the camera you have and what druver or module could be required

Are you trying to use the Windows driver? What's the name of the driver you're trying to use?

T6 meant to say:

can you post the results of lsusb (from a terminal)?

Looks like there is no actual driver itself. I wonder if I need to install it via Windows XP and THEN get the driver? It's an EXE install file/Mac OSX installation.

Amazingly, the camera DOES come on in chatrooms but continues to stay completely black screened. I'm baffled.

I'm sure there is no valid driver unless I install it first via Windows. I could be wrong though.

As for an app, which one do I use? I just downloaded Coriander if that will work.

Doing a net search, Mac and Windows were the only drivers I found listed for that camera. As far as I know, you won't be able to use the Windows driver in Linux, unless you can get it working in wine. You may be able to get it working in VirtualBox, since the camera is connected via USB. And, what are the results of lsusb in a terminal?

So, where is the output of LSUSB?

You could also post the last number of lines from the command   dmesg    after you plug in the camera.

At least then we may have some idea of what hardware you are referring to .....

Sorry, just a bit confused as I have started taking heart and blood pressure medications. Please explain where and what to do. I have KDE version 2011. Thank you.

the exe file does not work on linux, will  not work on linux, the exe just has the drivers for windows and linux can't do anything with it

i found this link but no idea if it has someting useful for the current kernel, anyone can take a look at it?

The driver appears to be available in PCLOS .......  or at least there are two candidates ......  the 'b' and the 'j' versions ....  presumably from the device number it is the 'b' version that is applicable ... ( 0c45:60fb )

Code: [Select]
$ locate sonix

Just got rid of the Dynex cam as it's useless and got a Logitech Quickcam PRO 3000. Apparently this works with Linux, and it does work with Cheese but not in a chatroom. Something seems to be wrong. Uses module "pwc" whatever that is.

Any ideas?

thanks guys!

I went here for the driver needed:

http://www.vanheusden.com/setpwc/

I downloaded this file:

Download link:   setpwc-1.3.tgz

Now I have to ask, what now? How do I "build" this or run it to work in PCLinuxOS 2011 KDE?

Any help please. Thanks so much! Can't wait to use this! :)

what are you doing looking for a driver when the webcam is obviously working - according to yourself?

Because it doesn't work in chatrooms with Adobe Flash it seems. I would like this thing to run properly if I can get it to.

Any ideas folks? Thanks!
