Flash Player Does Not Work After Upgrade
« on: May 11, 2012, 06:05:57 PM »
Recently updated Flash Player via Synaptic.  Now videos will not play.
When I updated to the previous version of Flash Player I had the same problem.
Removing Flash Player via Synaptic and reinstalling resolved that problem.
Tried that now but no success.
Then removed both Firefox and Flash player via Synaptic and reinstalled.  No success.
Checked in Edit->Preferences to verify that SWF file points to Shockwave Flash.
Installed Chromium Web Browser via Synaptic, which is supposed to have Flash player integrated.
Videos will not play in Chromium Browser.
Have searched the pclos forums and others but cannot find similar problem.

Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Fully updated LXDE
Athlon XP processor 1.625 Ghz
2.5 Bbyte memory
ATI Radeon 7000 (Radeon X1950 and earlier driver)

Thank you for the suggestion and link, Ramchu.
Removed new version of Flash Player via Synaptic.  Re-booted.
Installed the previous version of Flash Player using instructions in the link.  Re-booted.
Now Flash Player just crashes in both Firefox and Chrome.

I have no idea about how to resolve this issue.  I do have a Windoze XP installation to fall back on for applications that use Flash Player, but obviously prefer to having the PCLOS installation work properly.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

How did you get it?

I have the same problem on a fully updated machine with an Ati Radeon 9200 SE. The flashplayer (and the video card) is the problem. I tried these video drivers for the card: generic VGA, xorg-ati and xorg-vga. Flash video will still not play.

@Ramchu, do you still have a copy of the rpm?
Bare metal                           VBox

nVidia GeForce FX 5200          64MB video

If not, I have a copy.  Is it ok to upload it somewhere?

It seems that the ATI drivers are the problem.  I have the latest Flash Player plugin and it works with Firefox 11 and 12.

The rpm file is still available:

Click on the flash-player-plugin rpm file, then you get a minus file icon, click on it and  then download it   ;)

Please do  a search for the flash-player plugin-issue.  :(

Maybe this does fix it?

http://minus.com/mzmd36GwH/

It's is the previous flash-player-plugin.

Howto:

Download the  Flash-player-plugin.
Remove the actual flash-player-plugin with  synaptic.
Start konsole  and su to root.
Go to the folder where it's downloaded.

Type rpm -Uvh flash-player-plugin-11.1.102.62-1pclos2012.i586.rpm

Doing a test after installing.

It seems that you are correct - as on my desktop computer I have an Nvida FX5200 pci card and
had to roll back the flash player - and on my laptop an ATI Radeon HD 2000 and the latest flash player
works just fine.

Hello,
What does all this ducking and diving without synaptic mean for future updates? Will future updates using synaptic be affected or will the ability to do a rolling update still be possible?I am concerned that stability and updates may be adversely affected in the future or am I worrying unnecessarily?Flashplayer was working fine till it was updated. It was the only thing updated resulting in the problem.

I'm wondering what the real root cause is. I'm fully updated on three computers with nVidia cards. Flashplayer works correctly on all three. However, on my fourth machine, with an Ati card, it doesn't work. I get a black screen where the video preview should be. And, right-clicking on that black screen gives no flash video settings window.

Thanks, JohnW_57. That link works. http://i.minus.com/1336519626/j0MdUORJ8rpiybKA0nsgdw/dZO4qFjg10Tdu.rpm does not.
