The rpm JohnW_57 posted works on my PC with the Ati card. I've pinned the package. The newer flashplayer works fine on my nVidia cards.  ???

The flash player issue is with the current nvidia drivers, don't know  with the driver (173.x) for the FX series.

I have no Nvidia FX card so I can't test it.

My conclusion is the  previous flash-player-plugin did work for everyone.
So I suggest to Neal to revert to previous 11.1.x release in repo (non-free) and the new one in testing or special section who want to use it.

I don't know how everything fits together but I wonder whether package updates need to be synchronised.  The latest plug-in versions may need later / the latest driver/s?

All of the discussion is greatly appreciated, but my original problem still exists.

Rolling the Flash Player back to the 11.1.x version has not resolved the problem, but only created a different one.  The most recent Flash Player would not play videos.  Videos did not play but there was no message that the Player had crashed.  Rolling back the Flash Player to the previous version produces only crashes of the Player.  Thus, making the 11.1.x version of the Player the version available from Synaptic would not appear to be a solution to my problem, unless installing the Player using Synaptic produces different results than installing the plugin using the rpm command.

Again, any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I located sample .mpeg, .flv and .mov files on the internet.  I can play them in Firefox.  If I download the files to my desktop, I can play them with mplayer.

Hope this helps.

Hi all,

From some of the posts I've seen, it would appear that the latest flash-player-plugin works if your using firefox 11.  The problem appears on firefox 12 with NVidia Cards (more than just the CURRENT driver, but also on older drivers, such as the 96xx. I had some problems with the previous flash which were completely resolved by re-installing it.  However this solution does not work for the current flash -- rollback seems to be the only solution, so far.  I wonder if the issue will disappear with future firefox releases?

I continue to use Firefox 11 for a different reason.  I have used Firefox 12 on another installation to play a video on youtube, without any problem. My video is Geforce 6100.  I am using the latest nVidia driver and the latest version of Flashplayer on both PCLinuxOS installations.

Disabling hardware acceleration for flash cured that problem here

I have Firefox 12 and Flash 11.1.x.  Flash player will only crash.
I also have ATI Radeon 7000 video card.

Is there a way to go back to version Firefox 11?

Does shutting off hardware acceleration apply to the ATI Video cards?  I could not find a control for that feature.

your ati card is so old, really old, i sold mine, old in 2008

if i remember correctly the hardware acceleration for all the cards under radeon x600 is not working properly, at least on my ati 9200 is not working properly

i have to disable kwin desktop effects so flash works at decent speeds with flv videos on most sites

to make things simple, a ati 7000 is not the best option for linux anymore, at least i wouldn't bother trying to fix a broken driver for a weak card

many users just find a nvidia 5200 or a 6200 and let the ati for old win machines that could use it or sell it if someone can find a use for it

If you have the rpm for version 11, you can install it.  I have saved it on a website.  You use Synaptic to remove Firefox 12, put the rpm in some folder where there are no other rpms and run the command
Code: [Select]
rpm -Uvh *.rpm
If there are other rpms in the folder then you have to use the full name of the rpm instead of *.rpm
