( SOLVED ) Firefox Can't play videos and other things
« on: May 07, 2012, 02:42:26 PM »
Today I noticed that I can't watch any youtube videos
and I also can't loop the radar image's from the National Weather Service.
http://radar.weather.gov/radar.php?rid=PAH&product=N0R&overlay=11101111&loop=yes

I also tried it in konqueror and got the same results

I ran the PCLinux KDE Live CD and the loop image at the National weather service
runs just fine.

I also booted into Win XP and went to the site and the lop image works and I can also watch YouTube videos.

I haven't the slightest idea what happened nor how to fix it.

Any and all help is appreciated !

EDIT : I also have all add on's disabled in firefox

Check   Synaptic -> File -> History about recent updates ...
recent updates included nvidia-current, fglrx, flash-player-plugin ...

which video driver are you using ?

I'm using firefox-12.0, nvidia-current-295.49, and flash-player-plugin-11.2.202.235 ... all is working fine here, including your link to NWS ...

try to create a new user, log in as new user, and test firefox again ...

well  :D ... not really, but at least we know it is not settings related ;)

when you say "can't watch" ... what do you get really ? a black window ?
try to launch firefox from a console terminal ... any message ?

Launched firefox from a terminal and all it did was launch - no error messages of any kind.

Here is a screen shot of YouTube

If it wasn't that it is all working on my system, I would say that it is an issue due to flash-player-plugin ... because it is component used from both firefox and konqueror .... did you tried to reinstall it ?

Maybe this does fix it?

http://i.minus.com/1336519626/j0MdUORJ8rpiybKA0nsgdw/dZO4qFjg10Tdu.rpm

It's is the previous flash-player-plugin.

Howto:

Download the  Flash-player-plugin.
Remove the actual flash-player-plugin with  synaptic.
Start konsole  and su to root.
Go to the folder where it's downloaded.

Type rpm -Uvh flash-player-plugin-11.1.102.62-1pclos2012.i586.rpm

Test it!!

Still have some previous rpms  like video drivers  and some other rpms to roll-back :)

Nasty habit from me??  (just kidding).

IIRC, until this last update of flash-player-plugin, there were two previous version in repo ... guess sometimes we are out of luck  :D ;D

No problem here with youtube after the latest update:
Quote
Commit Log for Sun May  6 22:08:17 2012
Upgraded the following packages:
flash-player-plugin (11.1.102.63-1pclos2012) to 11.2.202.235-1pclos2012

Perhaps because I am still using Firefox 11?
