<Fixed> Large Icons in task bar
« on: May 06, 2012, 05:17:59 AM »
I have tried to get 2 monitors working under 2012.02 but the result was a trashed system as far as the task bar was concerned.
The task bar lost a lot of the normal icons that sit there.
I created in iso (with mylivecd) of the system and installed it on another drive in the same system.
The result was still a corrupt task bar. So... i removed the task bar and created a new one.
The task bar was just as bad as the original.
I reinstalled 20112.02 once more but the task bar was just the same!!! What, in my home folder can create a situation like this.
Since this folder contains my email, I cannot just delete my home folder. But it does seem to be what is needed.
The icons in questions are all about 2-3 inches long although the default icons are the right size.
Your thoughts on this matter will be gratefully received.
Many thanks in advance.

Hi Gezza,

"Since this folder contains my email, I cannot just delete my home folder."

Your mail may be in /home/mail or perhaps /home/.kde4/share/apps/kmail

Suggest for your /home:

Copy out your email folder somewhere safe

Make a copy of .kde4 to say .kde4bak

Delete .kde4, logout, login, .kde4 will be recreated from new.

Check your email and put back into new .kde4 if needed.

Hi Phil,
I did as you suggested.
Rsynced /home/user/.kde4/share to a local folder.
I also dragged and dropped the share folder to a second local folder.(for safety) I then deleted .kde4.
I then rebooted....
Black screen and home folder only, no task bar at all.
I then logged in as root, deleted me and the recreated me.
rebooted.
A normal screen and task bar.
Rsynced share from the local folder. ran kontact and lo... no inbox.
rebooted
still no inbox but the system was back as not normal as well, back to square 1.
The problem appears to be in the share folder.
Any idea as to what in there, can cause this problem?
As always, your thoughts gratefully received.

Hi Phil,
Having deleted me from the system, as root, twice, I now have a normal set of icons again.
Thank you for your assistance, I am now, once again, a happy old chappy.
