Hello,

I need to take notes for my study in class, and a notebook or a laptop is cumbersome, so I was thinking in a tablet. Unfortunately, I tried some of them in the stores and they do not allow to install my mind mapping software that runs in Java platform: thebrain.com or xmind.net.

I wonder if someone knows about a tablet than can runs Linux with the standard kernel, so it can run Java and my software, because Android is very limited, even Android 4.

Best regards

There is at least one laptop that I have seen which has a screen which can be rotated 180 degrees and closed. That allows you to write directly on the screen with stylus.

Since I don't remember the brand, I can't look it up but if that could be a viable solution for you, someone else in the group my know the brand and model and whether or not it will work under PCLOS.

I have little doubt that it will run PCLOS but don't know if the screen input interface will work.

Good luck

Most android tablets have ARM-processors. There is currently no ARM version of PCLOS but there is a *buntu version for ARM support.

So if you can stomach the flavor of *buntu... it can be installed on most tablets with varying levels of hardware compatibility.

There are some x86 tablets in the wild.... but generally they're more expensive (with Win7-license) and/or have less good battery life (<7 hours)....
=> on some of them, it would be possible to install a "normal" Linux install - but you still need to be sure that all hardware (touchscreen, wlan, ...) is supported.

At the moment, I'm curious about the Intel Medfield processors (specifically developed for phones / tablets with an x86 architecture)
=> they should provide better battery life... and hopefully they are more affordable  ;)

With Medfield processors? No....

But according to Intel, they are coming  ;)
=> I only know that there's already a smartphone released with that processor... in India if I remember that correctly  ;)
