I bought an ASUS Pro 59 LE 2 in 2010 (for my 70th birthday). It was stripped of any existing OS and PCLinuxOS installed. So far, it has performed flawlessly and I am still very pleased with it. It is now my main machine.

All I can say is... that new ultra-thin stainless steel Asus laptop looks hot, hot, hot.

I have a Asus tablet (TF101 transformer) I'm very happy with.

Thanks T6, I appreciate the info....Toshiba is ok, as is the Lenovo, good machines, have had both in the past. I was looking at the Asus to try out, as well as test the i5 intel cpu out..and the price seemed good...

Laptops are as good as their warranty is. Here in the Philippines Acer sucks big time in that regard.
I bought a unit last December which failed in January. Today (2 May) I still have no laptop. Its all about giving the run about. First a few failed attempts to "fix" things by there local service center. Then to Acer in Manila where they had no parts for it. Finally pushed for refund (out of the question) then for replacement. Finally today I was text that Acer would consider replacement but ... I had to send all the accessories that came with it. No problem, got that covered. But then .... they also want back the carton box where it was packed in during delivery. Who keeps such box? That is only for shipping purposes ain't it. But they will use any technicality to avoid honoring their warranty. I offered them to keep all that stuff from the replacement as I don't need it. No way ..... "policy is .....blablabla".  Bye laptop, bye Acer.... Stuff it, has tired me already too much!

I own two Asus netbooks; the original 701 with 8gm of disk and a later 10" model with 160gb disk (inherited from my wife when she bought her Mac). Both run PCLOS; the 10" is dual booted with XP. I have had no service issues with either. The 701's batteries are about shot, but that is typical for a laptop of its age. I also have the Asus Transformer 10" Android tablet with 4.0 (from vendor supplied upgrades).
My only concern would be with used/recertified machines of any brand; I would not expect the batteries to be the same as a 'new' machine.

+1 to Asus

I like their netbooks better than these little touch screen's
I've been seeing lately at the coffeeshop.

They used to come with a small Linux OS installed so that
might be the reason for good compatibility with Linux.
Not much problem with installation noted anywhere.

Reading about an ASUS X101 netbook today.   Had fanless
technology.    I don't think I would buy that.

a fanless laptop, add a ssd hard disk and that would make it a dream come true, of course after adding pclinux to it

this thing has a atom 455, of course it can work without a fan, perfect, it comes with meego as the os, weird selection
