Plasma desktop crashes when minimized firefox sites are maximized ..

Hi

My desktop crashes when I try to maximize minimized sites from firefox. I am using PCLinuxOS KDE 2012.02 fully updated.
I have 2gb ram and onboard video on a ms-7349 motherboard.
Also I have noticed that when I am in synaptic the row for component is filled with v's

no idea really; recently realized that an activated plasma-applet-devicenotifier_automount may cause the plasma-desktop to crash or not appear at all. Something with this or another plasma-related component seems to be broken. Should you have that installed and activated in the System Tray then you could try to deactivate and remove it and see if that helps. Just a wild guess though...

since when do you have this issue? After a recent update? Of what? This happens on KDE 4.6.5 32 bit I guess?

I can not remember .. at least 3 to 4 days

I use update notifier and therefore check for updates once a day.

if that is the case and you are suing the onboard video card, what driver are you using?  i think you could need the nvidia driver from the repos

the few problems i experience with plasma are solved when i disable desktop effects but that gives me other problems, all thanks to the bad vide driver i have for this old unsupported video card(another, not your card)

Do you have this crash problem with normal task-manager or icon-tasks instead of smooth tasks?

Icon-tasks are very popular and it seems that can replace smooth tasks for you.

smooth task is not part of kde-plasma desktop. I was thinking about standard icon-text task manager shipped with kde.

Icon tasks are in repo as package plasma-applet-icontasks

Glad It helped.

It's worth to remember that if plasma crashes it's almost certainly C++ (scripts can't crash plasma, at least that's what devs say) plasmoid fault.
