ATTN: Chinese Users of PCLinuxOS!
« on: April 29, 2012, 07:27:17 AM »
Plasma-Applet-WebQQ is a desktop integration of Tencent's QQ, which is a popular application for Windows among the Chinese. Nihui, also the developer of KimToy, had just announced the release (April, 29, 2012) of release 0.1 of the aforementioned KDE Plasma Desktop ... sorry for the wrong packaging name; I thought it was just an applet!

According to the announcement:

Quote
WebQQ is a web-based operation system, contains millions of apps. WebQQ has its Open API for developing new app.

Plasma WebQQ can be used in both plasma-desktop or plasma-network shell. The content is the webqq webpage. Almost everything works fine just like in web browser.

Testing and feedback (in English, please) is appreciated.

Setting up and running Plasma-WebQQ screenshots:

Search and install via Synaptic:

Locating the plasma desktop: (Right-click anywhere on the desktop > Desktop Settings)

Changing one of your virtual desktops to Plasma-WebQQ Layout:

Running Plasma-WebQQ-0.1 on my right monitor:

Thank you for reading.

Peace and much respect,
Archie

Yes, JohnW_57. I am aware that it is already up 0.3 in just two days so I'm waiting for it to settle down. I have already 0.3 built and package ... and being tested.

Thanks for the heads up. ;)

I played a little with the WebQQ applet and was absolutely fascinated. This could be reason enough to learn Chinese....

The problem is that not yet knowing any Chinese I wanted to get rid of the WebQQ view when I'd stopped playing. And I couldn't.

So I thought: "Lets remove Desktop 4" (where I had set it up).

And I did. Then I created a new Desktop 4. And it came up with the WebQQ view.

So I uninstalled plasma-applet-webqq. After that Desktop 4 doesn't have any view at all. If I right-click the desktop I get the normal dialogue box where the last line would normally be "Configure Desktop" or "Configure Search and Launch" or "Configure Folder View". Now the line reads: "Unknown Settings Alt+D, Alt+S". And it's greyed out.

So how do I get my normal desktop back for the time it takes me to learn Chinese?

LOL. You should have first shut down webqq... Cashew > WebQQ ... then you should get the Desktop settings window. Select your plasma desktop (Desktop/Folderview). It will be blank but you can reset your wallpaper and widgets when you get back your plasma desktop.

I'm not sure what else you can do in fixing the Unknown settings.

Fixed. Thanks Archie. (I was testing a widget hiding the cashew for another thread, and I first had to uninstall that. After that getting rid of WebQQ was easy. But I'm still very impressed by what it seems to do.)
