Data from LibreOffice Calc to pdf and reverse
« on: April 29, 2012, 04:52:38 AM »
Dear all

I think my question is a ... bad question but ....  ;D

We can export a file from LibreOffice Calc to a pdf file.
But is there possible to recover the date from a pdf file to a LibreOffice Calc file ?

Thanks for your help

Calc has an Insert > Sheet From File function. But, pdf is not one of the supported formats. I don't think the pdf storage format is compatible with spreadsheets.

Herve49,

I'm not sure how much help this will be (if any at all), but LibreOffice will open PDF files in LibreOffice Draw, where they are editable. Maybe this would be of some help?

i suspect there are programs out there that will convert but i also suspect that you'd have to pay for them and they would only run under that other OS.

As i understand it, the pdf format is something like a snapshot, a picture, which i think means something like a jpeg and while going from a file to pdf is evidently not very difficult, it would seem to much more difficult to go from a jpeg (pdf) to a spreadsheet again.

Have you thought about exporting to CVS - is it even possible?

Hope this helps some and have a great morning!  :)

Probably not helpful for this particular instance, but for future reference, LibreOffice can save as a hybrid PDF, which will allow editting the source data (it's embedded in the PDF).
