kate for python editing- how to change to 4 spaces?
« on: May 04, 2012, 09:08:39 PM »
I"m a new Python programmer, and the book and tutorials I have say that the tab key should be set for 4 spaces. Kate defaults to 3 even in "python" mode. Is 3 spaces standard also? How can I change "python mode" in kate so that it tabs to 4 spaces? Thanks.
Linuxbro.

Linuxbro,
For python scripting, drpython or geany would work better than kate without the need to make changes. Nothing against kate, which is a good text editor, but that these 2 are more suited to developing python from the first. Each also has an integrated test feature that will help you to track down bugs. I have used both and find them to be excellent tools.
If you install geany, install geany-plugins, too.

Linuxbro.

Settings - Configure Kate - Editing - Indentation tab - Default mode 'Python'  and under it ....  Indentation Width set to 4 characters.  OK.

Restart Kate (maybe).
