[SOLVED] Thunderbird to Firefox again!
« on: April 26, 2012, 01:13:38 PM »
My Thunderbird e-mail links won't open in Firefox again.  I tried rebooting and I tried checking to make sure that Firefox is my default browser but it didn't fix it.  Any suggests?

If you search the forum for Firefox and Thunderbird you'll find a number of posts relating to this issue.
I have given an explanation of why it occurs here and given instructions for avoiding it.

There is also an alternative procedure here which also works.

Thanks DJ, I tried those before and then re-tried those again with no luck. The files were already all created and the other way wouldn't open a browser choice window.  BUT what I have discovered is that if the link is https://... it WILL open FF.  If it's http:// it won't and I can't find a preference in either TB or FF that seems to influence this.

This happens when Firefox or Thunderbird are updated to a new number-- 11 to 12-- What you need to do is open Firefox and then go to Edit--Preferences-- Advanced, Then at bottom of box in System Defaults Check Now (Always Check if Firefox is the default browser). Say yes.

Do the same thing in Thunderbird.

The check default "trick" doesn't change anything and after doing the config editor I don't get this browser choice box http://img163.imageshack.us/img163/5258/snapshot0026.png

Maybe I'm doing something wrong but I'm usually pretty good with RTFM.  This thing I don't get is why https works and http doesn't. To me it suggests some sort of security issue.

In Thunderbird, Edit > Preferences > Attachments tab. What actions are listed for http and https?

https said to use firefox at /usr/lib/firefox/firefox
http said to use firefox (default)
I changed the http to firefox at to point to /usr/lib/firefox/firefox and that seems to have fixed it.

Thanks for your help and direction. (whew!)

For info:

Thunderbird Release Notes

v.12.0.1, released: April 30, 2012

What’s New

FIXED - Fix various issues relating to new mail notifications and filtering on POP3 based accounts
FIXED - Fixes an occasional startup crash seen in TB 12.0
FIXED - Fixes an issue with corrrupted message bodies when using movemail

Known Issues

Unresolved - If you are unable to view content for your RSS feeds in the Wide View Layout, you may need to disable the Lightning Calendar add-on if you have it installed or switch to Classic View and restart Thunderbird. (see 531397)

Unresolved - Running TB 12 with local mail folders and pop3 mail filters may produce summary files that aren't correctly read by previous versions of Thunderbird. If you decide to go back to a previous version of Thunderbird after running TB 12, you should delete the .msf files for your local folders and pop3 accounts, or repair the folders using the folder properties dialog, to avoid potential data loss.

Should I expect to find v.12.0.1 in the repos or be happy it isn't there for me?  I am a PASS supporter so if it's there I think I should have it.
