Update-Notifier strangeness and Synaptic crash
« on: April 25, 2012, 07:16:17 PM »
I know that the update-notifier was recently updated and works better than before,
(it shows updates and now I don't have multiples running).

However, today it told me that there were 7 updates and 4 new new packages available.
I click on it and chose to update through Synaptic, as I like to see just what is
coming my way.

After Synaptic loaded, it clicked on 'upgradeable (upstream)' and Synaptic immediately crashed.
Then the update-notified came back up and informed me I'm all up to date with 0 updates available and
0 new packages available.

Ok, so I thought maybe the updates came through without me asking for them, but when
I checked history, it showed no update activity from today.
I restarted Synaptic, hit reload... still nothing.

So... what happened to the updates? Or were there any to begin with?

I'm running the LXDE edition on this machine.

Thanks

Can you also mention which repository is activated?

ok, launched from terminal.

Terminal outputs:
Gtk-CRITICAL **: IA__gtk_widget_hide: assertion `GTK_IS_WIDGET (widget)' failed

then synaptic starts.
At bottom of synaptic screen:
13173 packages listed, 1571 installed, 0 broken, 0 to install/upgrade, 0 to remove

no other output to terminal when quitting the program.

I think it will maybe be interesting to keep the output open, and try to reload (hoping on updated/new packages) and then clicking the tab upgradable....

Yeah, I thought about that, so I went back and did exactly that
using the same procedure as before.

Same results.

So it was just a glitch or so..... if it happens more frequently in the future / if you don't receive any updates anymore in the future, please let it know....
=> if it isn't possible to reproduce it, it will be very difficult (and I think impossible) to solve it  :)

Ok, I fired about a laptop with the same install.
It had 7 updates, mostly samba, which I updated.
(versions match 1st machine.)

Now that both machines are 'current', I'll see if there is
any difference between the two getting updates.
Even though they may have different packages, I can
compare the installed version of common packages
between the two.

Thanks for the help, and I'll repost if this persists
or I have other issues with it.
