[SOLVED] KDE sounds too loud
« on: April 23, 2012, 01:56:43 PM »
Hi All,
I searched the forum before posting but did not find an answer to my problem.

Recently (as in today) I noticed that the start up and shut down sounds (problem other KDE sounds too) are much, much louder than the sound coming out of VLC or Firefox.

I tried adjusting the individual sound on VLC and YouTube but that still does not fully compensate for it and it requires readjusting after every reboot.

I tried adjusting the settings in KMix, all of the volume levels are pretty much the same now.

However I still have the problem where the start up and shut down sound is much, much louder than normal.
You can imagine what happens after I listen to music in the background while working and then shut down the computer (without first dropping the volume so low that I can't hear the online radio anymore) - the sudden burst of the loud shut down sound makes you jump.

Any ideas or suggestions?

As always I really do appreciate any help that you may provide.

EDIT:  I just tried to set the PCM volume louder than the system volume - they sound pretty close now, I just hope that these settings remain upon reboot.

Yup that seems to have done the trick.

Normally I would just delete this thread as I have solved my own problem, but I'll mark is Solved and leave it be just in case someone else has this same problem.
