Pidgin icon not showing in tray / PCLOS 2012
« on: June 15, 2012, 05:55:30 AM »
Hi,

Pidgin comes by default but either by default or as a result of an update, the tray icon for Pidgin is not displayed in tray on PCLOS 2012 KDE - see the screenshot. That is Pidgin is there, you can click on the area where the icon's supposed to be and it will work (will open Pidgin or context menu), but no icon itself is displayed (as if it was missing or transparent).

Is there a way to fix this? To manually define a tray icon and add it to the theme (if yes, where are the theme files stored)?

Thanks.

I also have the same problem, the icon was there before on my system. I am not sure if an update to a program removed the icon. Maybe someone will have a answer.

This weirdness with the Pidgin icon is an on-going thing .....  has been happening on and off for months here.
Sometimes I get a white rectangle, then a few days later all is well, only to have it do something weird again.

Sometimes logging out and back in brings back the correct icon ....  here at least ...  presently it is correct :D

and it also seems that pidgin doesn't react to mouse / keyboard etc. activity after it switches the status to "away". it remains away until the status is manually changed. i guess i remember the same behavior of pidgin on pclos in 2011 as well.

Just thought I'd throw my hat in, as well.  I have the same problem, and I noticed it after I upgraded to the new 3.2 kernel that just showed up in the repos a couple of days ago.  As with the others, I can still pop up the buddy list and such, so it's still usable, just not visible.  I've tried rebooting a few times since then, and still no icon.  As far as I'm concerned, I'm not too worried about it.

I just upgraded to the new 3.2 kernel as well and I now have this same trouble.  I noticed that if I remove the tray from my panel and then add it back, pidgin's icon starts working.  However, it stops working again as soon as I need to restart pidgin.

Anyone know of a quick way to add a delete/add system tray procedure to the pidgin launcher so we can at least fix the symptom? :)

What happens if you click the triangle on the right? This usually brings the hidden icons up. Will it then show the icon?

It is in the tray .....  but its icon is not visible ......  clicking on the invisible icon launches it.

And now Pidgin is saying there is ANOTHER update. They had just done the update and now another one. Maybe when they do the new update the icon will reappear. I doubt it, but you never know.
