new kernel

  need newer kernel for 3 laptop installs, wireless issues in the current release are supposed to be supported in the next release according to my research. railink 5390 well im used to waiting but the friends leave with the linux doesnt work on my laptop mindset . bummer, 3 days in a row, 3 possible converts and  3 sorry wireless is not supported on your device yet. when will it be? i dont know, sorry. of course they are all HP's. this last one said just wipe off windows it will force me to learn linux. well i always run the live cd first to discover what works and what doesnt and this is now 4 in a row that have pending wireless support. well if the wireless doesnt work its a no go here in cowboy and indian country. trying to keep cheerful but. well ill cry in some beer and hope the newer kernel gets approved for release soon . i dont mean to sound negative but missing 4 in a row now that does something to a pclos fanatic.

thanks op i appreciate the help. this will be great for my new aspire 722 and the testing i have allready decided to join but i dont think in good consience that i should install an in testing kernel on a linux newbie. you know after i put my friends origional hd back in the laptop windows wouldnt start. the only thing i did was switch the factory hd with a blank hd for the live testing session. my friend asked me why windows wouldnt start and i said ask windows. im just wondering why windows wont start. no wonder windows needs a recovery partition.

A real PCLOS fanatic wouldn't cry in his beer over this, he would of figured out a work around for it!  Don't be a cry baby sign up for Direct TV........  Oops this isn't that TV ad is it.    I think I would of loaded the latest kernel from testing and see if that would of taken care of the wireless issue. I have a customer here that has a newer Acer and that is exactly what I ended up doing to get his working.

well i did what op suggested (realised he would not give me crappy direction) and loaded the new kernel. the railink rt5390 is recognised but it is not working. the power light is blinking on and off so im not sure what to try next . i did not find anything on the forum search for this wireless device and a search on the web was compiling kernels etc althoygh one link indicated that this would be supported in the 3.xx kernel. the friend is here watching me and i may attempt to use ndiswrapper. ill get the drivers from the website etc. untill then any ideas?

  funny here at the motel i have a sudden plugged toilet and a plugged bathtub so ill pop in and out as i can. and to think i was so focused on the laps wireless, distractions, distractions.
