Cannot reboot after installing on an SSD
« on: April 18, 2012, 02:20:01 PM »
Well, it's not a showstopper. But if I choose "reboot" the BIOS won't find my installation and can't boot.

If I shut down and start the laptop afterwards, all is fine and the system starts as expected.

KDE fully updated on an SSD on a ThinkPad (specs below).

What could that be?
All that is is good. PCLinuxOS is.

Thinkpad X61 Tablet, Core2Duo 1.66 MHz, 4 GB Ram, Intel onboard Graphics, Plextor PX-256M3 256 GB SSD; Thinkpad R61i, Core2Duo 1.66 MHz, 2 GB Ram, Intel onboard graphics, 120 GB HDD

 ??? possibly a BIOS bug ? ...

what the boot sequence in BIOS: USB, HDD, ...  did you tried to set the HDD as first boot device ?

Hi AS,

thanks for responding. Boot sequence is okay, it can't find anything on any drive....

Maybe I need a BIOS update as the laptop dates from 2007 or 2008, before the SSD invention...  ;D ;D ;D Will see if there's an update and if it will fix it.

Hi AS,

I meant .... if the BIOS is bugged ... may be it work upon cold boot ... and not upon reboot ....
So, trying to change to boot sequence in BIOS ... may or may not help ... just try.  ;)

Update the BIOS only if you find specific mention of your problem in BIOS release notes ...   ;)

In some BIOS settings there is an option to introduce a delay for the drives ......  it might give BIOS time to recognise the drive ......  never had to use it myself but ......

also enabling a full memory test will delay the hardware recognition phase in most BIOSs ......

No specific notion. Gonna have to dig elsewhere.

Just18 is probably onto something here... look at enabling a delay in the BIOS if that's an option or abandoning "quick boot" to inject some more time for the system to see your SSD.
