LXDE closed automatically the session.
« on: April 18, 2012, 12:05:10 PM »
Hi friends,

today my system crashed at start up:

when Net Aplet was looking for the wifi I get a black screen and the system closed automatically the session, GDM appeared and I had to log in, user and password...

Now my system is working well, but why happened this?

Thanks.

possibly a crash of Xserver ... check the files /var/log/Xorg.*.log* ...
what video card / driver are you using ?

I've looked at your file /var/log/Xorg.0.log, which appear perfectly fine.

You need to keep an eye open, if there will be a next time with the same problem, and immediately after look at /var/log/Xorg.0.log or /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old for errors, i.e. lines marked with (EE)

So far, there is no info to investigate on.

Hi friends,

today my system crashed at start up:

when Net Aplet was looking for the wifi I get a black screen and the system closed automatically the session, GDM appeared and I had to log in, user and password...

Now my system is working well, but why happened this?

Thanks.

Maybe a warning from your system, You should not to long sitting on your laptop/netbook/desktop  :P

Sometimes we have errors, but don't know why.
Is your sys running fine?

It may be that EDID is messing this up for the Nvidia Xserver causing a crash/Xserver restart.

IF it happens again (it may not) try manualy setting up the Xserver and then disabling EDID prior to rebooting.

Hi Leiche, I bought recently this laptop, it is old but until now is running fine. But... I was reading about this:

the nVIDIA chips in the T61 are defective..

I hope not the mine...

IF it happens again (it may not) try manualy setting up the Xserver and then disabling EDID prior to rebooting.

Hi Hootiegibbon, please, how to do this if I need to do...?   ???

To set up the Xserver you use the PCLinuxOS Control Centre > Hardware > Configure video Card

to switch the EDID probing off at boot you add "EDD=off" without the quotes to the Grub boot stanza for your default boot option
(located at /boot/grub/menu.lst)
