TeamViewer now crashes
« on: April 17, 2012, 07:57:45 PM »
I've used TeamViewer just fine before.  But when it was upgraded to ver. 7 I noticed a distinct change.  The program displays as an almost black box instead of blue and when I tried using it, it would crash each time I tried to link via my iPhone.  I tried uninstalling and reinstalling but that didn't change anything.

Anyone else experiencing this problem?

I'm running an updated KDE with Teamviewer 7, just tested it with the test website and it worked fine.  Two (?) maybe one week ago connected to a friend 50 miles away to help him with a problem.  It seems to work fine for me here.  What version of PCLinuxOS are you running?  Have you tried to run it from command line to see if you can see any error messages.

Perhaps with some of the above information an advance user can pin point the problem on your system.

I'm also running a fully updated KDE.  I tried running if from a command line, but that didn't show anything.  It starts up O.K., it just crashes when I try to connect.  When it does crash I get a wine error box that says "The program TeamViewer_Desktop.exe has encountered a serious problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience."

Any idea's?

Typical windows type bulls&%$ and their useless error reporting.

I just installed version 7 on this machine and had no issues connecting to a customers machine about 15 miles away. It worked fine but was slow redrawing the customer's desktop. This though, I believe is due to the customer's connection (internet) line speed.

One question, when you uninstalled and reinstalled did you remove the .teamviewer folder in your home directory before reinstalling???

If you removed Teamviewer did you check (as root) if the /opt/teamviewer map is removed ?
Version 6 and 7 are different beasts.
Teamviewer uses Wine, so before installing Teamviewer check for Wine updates.

No I didn't remove anything.  I thought that if I checked complete removal that all of those files would be removed.  I try again and see if that changes things.

Ed,

I followed yours as well as YouCanToo's advise. I deleted the .teamviewer folder in my home directory.  I checked in opt and there was no temviewer folder there so I assumed that synaptic removed it.  I also checked 'autostart' since I put an entry there. That entry was also missing. I then rebooted and reinstalled TeamViewer. After all that TeamViewer operates the same.  But there must be another file that I haven't found because all of my settings were there and when I checked 'auotstart' the TeamViewer entry was back.  I also checked and I have wine ver. 1.4 installed and when I looked into the opt directory I see that TeamViewer has it's own install of wine.

So any other Idea's?

The teamviewer package indeed has an embedded wine in PCLinuxOS....

But about what settings are you talking? => more clear where we should search  ;)

The wine settings for teamviewer are in the .teamviewer folder, that is why I suggested that it be removed.

@YouCanToo, I think he did remove it - I hope it was removed completely, because I don't know directly about another place where settings are stored (that was why I asked which kind of settings MCP meant, because normally there wouldn't be any left afaik)

That is correct.  I did delete the .teamviewer folder from my home directory.  That is why I was surprised to see that it returned with all of my previous settings.  I guess I can try again and see what happens. I'll report back my observations.

Thanks,

O.K. Here's what I did.  I opened Konqueror as root user, then deleted the .teamviewer folder in home. Then I went to opt/ and deleted the teamviewer folder there.  I then opened synaptic and uninstalled teamviewer clicking on remove completely.  I checked and autostart entry was gone.  Then I rebooted and reinstalled teamviewer.  Surprise, the same id number that was there previously was back.  The entry in autostart was back and after trying to connect I can report that it still does not work.  Everything appears fine until my remote connects, at that moment the teamviewer window minimizes and I get the error box. The teamviewer application is still open and waiting for a connection.  I have to manually close the connection on my remote since it's blank I know that it isn't working.

Anymore Idea's?  I'm going to try in a different user I have and see if that works.

Sorry I misunderstood. I thought you were asking me why and where. Sorry about that.

The only other suggestion that I have right now would be to do a complete reboot after removing everything and before reinstalling. Though I really don't believe it will help.

As you will see in my response, I did that.  As you suspected it didn't change anything.

Update:  I logged out and into another user I have.  I found that It also had teamviewer.  I'm surprised because I never installed it in that user.  Something must be shared.  So I deleted the appropriate files including the entry in the menu.  Then I logged back in my regular user deleted everything and then REBOOTED.  After I reinstalled I get the same result.  Are you guys sure there isn't another file were missing?  Odd thing is ver.6 worked just fine but since it updated to 7 I get nothing but grief.
