HP Officejet v40 partially printing and hanging
« on: April 15, 2012, 03:07:09 AM »
Recently, I have had an issue printing documents.  When I try printing out some pages, they partially print, spit the paper out partially printed, and then the printer hangs.  I check in HP device manager and see that the printer has stopped.  I select it to start again, and it prints out partially again, and hangs, and does not give me the option to start again.  Sometimes it allows me to finish printing, sometimes (like right now in the middle of printing a pdf in color) it does not.

I get pop ups (of course it didn't happen right now to record what they were) but I believe it said something about the printer driver not being installed.  I changed the option in PCC with the printer so that when there was an error it would retry job instead of stopping the printer, but it doesn't seem to help.

I usually wind up having to delete the job and redo again until it catches.

Help!  This is getting frustrating.

Just tried to print 2 pages from a pdf.  The printer printed about 15% of the page and spit it out...that's it!

The HPLIP Device Status says:  missing printer driver.  It is not possible to install 'Hewlett-Packard OfficeJet V40' without the right driver

Where did you set up your printer (PCLinuxOS Control Center, or HP device manager, or CUPS at localhost:631)?
and:
Which driver did you select for your printer?

I believe it set it up in CUPS, and when I open CUPS up, it says the driver is:  HP Officejet v40, hpcups 3.11.10 (color, 2-sided printing)

After seeing rubentje1991's response, I thought I would try to uninstall the printer in PCC and reinstall.  When it came time to do the driver, it chose a more generic one, and I chose a more specific one.  Under HP Officejet model (they didn't have the v40 listed as a model), there were 5 listed that were HP officejet v40:

1.  hpijs, 3.11.10 [en]
2.  CUPS + gutenprint v5.2.7 simplified [en]
3.  CUPS + gutenprint v5.2.7 [en]
4.  Foomatic/gutenprint-ijs-simplified 5.2 [en]
5.  Foomatic/gutenprint-ijs 5.2 [en]

I chose the 3rd option.  Tested on the pages I had problems with earlier in color, and they printed fine.  The only thing I noticed was it took a long time to print out the color - longer than before.  Both were on standard color print.

Did I pick the right one?  Why does it take longer to print?
