synaptic download errors

OK, I updated the system this evening, 6:30 PM EDT, and after saying OK to update about 10 or 12 files, I said apply.  I got a message box that said:

APT System reports:
W. Some errors occurred while running transactions.
[OK]       (that's a box around OK)

I don't think this is the only kind of error message I've seen, but that was the one I saw tonite.

that happens sometimes especially when the server is being updated

when that happens stop the proces, don't apply the rest of the packages, a partial update is a potential problem, the system could have errors or parts could stop working untill you complette the task

reload and try again later, try with another repo if that keeps happening with the same repo and don't forget to use only one repo each time

i didn't used my laptop for a week and i checked, there was 40 mbs of updates waiting for me form heanet repo but you could try another repo

No, it is more likely that the pkglists need to be refreshed (click Reload, that is) after the repo has finished syncing. The problem with calibre has long since been fixed.

Happens here on the only two desktops where I have Calibre installed, Zen 32bit and Zen 64bit. Both are fully updated, always have been. I get the message on any update involving Calibre.

Remove calibre. Shut down. Wait 5 seconds or so. Boot up. Run dupeclean (just in case). Check for upgrades. If there are any, do you get the same message? Check for broken packages, too.    

Having calibre installed is not evidence that calibre is the problem.    

Install calibre after the test, if you want.    

edit: Transaction set lock messages are about the package lists. Run bleachbit-root or manually delete the pkglist files at /var/lib/apt/lists and the 2 pkgcache files at /var/cache/apt before you open and reload synaptic. Do not delete the folders! You need them.

Used Zen 32bit for this because it's the traditional, non-testing installation. Started Synaptic. Reload. Mark All Upgrades. Nothing to upgrade. No broken packages before or after. Marked calibre for complete removal. Doing so would have only removed that one package. I've left it installed for now. Ran dupecleangui.

After running bleachbit-user, bleachbit-root and dupecleangui, there were still package list files in the /var/lib/apt/lists directory, as well as a lock file. I deleted them, as well as the two .bin files in the /var/cache/apt directory. Now, I have:

I too get a error alot on not being able to update certain ones. I use the repositisory that are high lighted, the first 2 and on some of the post I believe op tell us these top two are the best ones for speed.

As root, rename /usr/share/doc/httrack/html directory, then install httrack.

Well, yes, I just saw this (again) after updating calibre.  I have seen it fairly often, probably most often when there are a batch of files to be updated or installed at once.
I think the errors are what johnmart talks about in his reply.  I can't replicate the problem right now--everything is updated as of this afternoon.  If there is a problem with
calibre, I will probably never know it, since I have no e-book reader.  (Don't know why I have calibre, actually--maybe at one time I thought it would allow me to _read_
e-books on the computer, but I don't think it does. Correct me if I'm wrong, please.) 

Actually it does allow you to read an e-book on your machine. I use it here when I make the ebook .epub and .mobi files for the magazine

As I said, I can't say that I've seen any bad result of these "errors"--if indeed they are same. But it does seem odd that it would be reported if there aren't any.  Is
it possible that Synaptic is reporting errors that it also corrected?
