Today I updated my the software on my Compac c51 laptop with broadcom WL adapter
through Synaptic. Among the updates I noticed one for Broadcom adapter.
After installation of the updates the system froze with a screenfull of output from Mod probe.
I downloaded the .iso PCLinuxos-2012.2 and ran the Live system. The network was OK. Then I downloaded - again
in the Live system - the updates from Synaptic including the broadcom update. After installation of the updates nothing
of the network worked. I could not even open the network center.
You are describing two different behaviors among two different installation, that suggest that something may not be correct on your original installation.
As far as I can tell, I'm not aware of any problem related to the broadcom drivers, but also can't exclude that a problem may exists.
Then I repeated the installation of the Live 2012.2 which has the broadcom adapter version 5.60.48.36-1pclos 2010. The network was OK again. Then I asked Synaptic for updates among them is the broadcom adapter version 5_100_82_112-1pclos 2012. I specified a forced version of 5.60.48.36-1pclos 2010 in Synaptic.
Now with the old version of the broadcom adapter the network is Ok again. This shows me that the broadcom update must be avaoided
at least for my broadcom hardware which is:
BMC4311 802.11b/g WLAN
Do I have other options than to stay backlevel?
Well, at least for now stay with the old one, which is working for you. Hopefully someone who is using similar hardware or at least using the broadcom-wl driver will jump into the thread.
