True in a dual boot I really wouldn't have a great deal of space on a 40gb hard drive. I am wondering though if say 10gb would be enough to just run the printer driver and then if possible be able to fetch the driver from Windows and into linux or is that possible?

I still have an XP installation on VirtualBox. It is a bare minimum installation with just Firefox web browser and a few utilities. It's 3.4GB total, so 10GB is easily doable. I'd say 8GB would do it. But, using the Windows printer driver in Linux is not doable.

So any suggestions would be most welcome but I really think this horse has been beat to death and not much else can be done except go back to windows XP.

Your choice.

I might as well ask that this topic be marked unsolved and closed. I see many benefits to Linux and this distribution is great but it isn't working for me. I am thinking of selling the computer though so I just may keep linux on the computer but let others know that they should use hp printers. Perhaps someone here may be able to convert Apple Macintosh printer drivers for Lexmark to a linux driver as that is about as close to linux as it gets.

40GB hard drive and 384MB of RAM?  Yeah, you should not be running virtualbox.  Your CPU/RAM combination probably cannot handle the load.
