[Solved] problem with package manager and update notifier

Hi everybody,
I am using the latest LXDE version. I have two problems which I hope you help me find the solution for:

1) Every time the update notifier tries to check for updates, it pops up an error that says:

"Your internet connection is working, but your default software repository cannot be contacted."

However, I still can reload, and mark all upgrades manually in synaptic which means the repository is accessible.

2) When I use apt-sources-update to find the fastest repository, and it produces the sources.list file. First of all, the file is in ~/repo-speed-test and not home directory while the software says it is in home! Is it a bug or I am missing something. Second, when I open the file, no matter which repo I choose the first two repos:

rpm http://ftp.vim.org/ibiblio/distributions/pclinuxos/megagames/apt/ pclinuxos/2010 megagames
rpm http://ftp.heanet.ie/pub/pclinuxos/apt/ pclinuxos/2010 main updates nonfree kde4 games xfce4

are active and the others are commented. Is it a known bug?

Seems odd.

You should only have one repo enabled. Synaptic > Settings > Repositories.
Heanet works for me, and on the file settings check delete all files after installation (to avoid cluttering the disk)
reload, of course.

If that does not work edit /etc/apt/sources so only heanet is not hashed at the start #

I use KDE desktop, and Software Centre > Update Package Sources List off the application launcher menu which seems to fix thins.

From who comes apt-sources-update?

This is not yet working, so far i known  . Or i missing something?

@Phil: I did some tests after I posted this. It seems that the problem is not persistent. However, it seems random! I chose a repository, it worked fine once, then, after a while I have the same error again. From the syndromes (!) I assume something wrong with my internet connection. I do not have problems with it while browsing and as I said, synaptic can connect to the repos. I need to do more tests. I will keep you up to date.

P.S. I used the update tool from the menues. that one works. I mean it changes the repo in sources.list successfully. So, we have one more question to solve. Why update-notifier cannot connect to repos.

@Leivhe: I assume that "PASS" user is kind of promoted user or may be the users who donate to the project. Anyways, I am new enough to be non of these, so here is my sources.list:

This is the last sources.list since the update tool changed it. As I said above, the update tool can change the repo list now, after I use the "Update Package Sources List" from the menu. About the command apt-sources-update, I saw that when I was searching for a solution for my problem in the forum:

Are you fully updated?  Did you update your sources-list from Synaptic?

I updated synaptic again. Still the same sources.list!

Do you install apt-sources-list, from synaptic?

Actually, I do not remember if it was installed or I did install it from synaptic. But when I search it in synaptic, it is there, and it is installed. I can uninstall and reinstall it if you think it will help.

OK, I reinstalled apt-sources-list. Now, how can I update the repo list?

Nop! OK lets debug it. Now, my sources.list has the line:

rpm http://mirror.cpsc.ucalgary.ca/mirror/pclinuxos/pclinuxos/apt/ pclinuxos/2010 main updates nonfree kde4 games xfce4 

and all other lines are commented. stiil update-notifier gives the same error. I think the best thing to do now is to reset everything to find the bug. Is there anywhere I can copy/paste the original sources.list file for PCLOS LXDE? or can anybody send me his/her sources.list for the LXDE version?

P.S. in the main menu, under "software center" there was a link to a program that is described here: http://pclosmag.com/html/Issues/201009/page18.html but I cannot see it now. I think I have uninstalled it. What is the name of the program?
