No boot menu in pclos kde4 64 bit

On my desktop all is OK
When booting up, I get a menu presented:
--PCLinuxos
--bootpclinuxos (safe mode )
--few others ( like pclos lxde or xfce or FM )
When I choose one of the others, I get another menu presented.

All fine

Now over to my Laptop !
I installed the test04 64 bit on sda5.
No problem with boot menu.

Then, I installed test04 64 bit on sda11.
After adding the bootup entry ( of sda11 ) to the menu.lst ( in sda5 ),
I can indeed boot into sda11. No problem....except ...>

I don't get a menu .( not at all. Maybe there is a 1/100th of a second flicker
where the boot menu was supposed to appear, but..)
It boots up straight without giving me any choices

I compared all I could find in PCC/boot/setup boot system, both the first screen, the next, advanced button and used modified ( to look only ) if I could find any suspicious entries, compared with sda5 (PCC/boot/setup boot system........tatata)

Spend about 2 hours, but I think it's time to ask some guru  ;D ;D

Do I need it:
No
But I certainly would give all my sweets in exchange for a boot menu on sda11

I know the 64bit testing iso(s) are discussed only on the testers mailing list.
I'll give you one hint!
Run redo-mbr (as root) from a livecd and I"m almost sure it's see there's another OS is been detected (the 64bit install).

You did not understand properly.
There is nothing wrong with menu.lst and it's contents.

It's not showing up on boot to give me the choices of OS that I want to have

there is nothing wrong here, as every entry brings me exactly where I want to be.
choosing "PCLinuxOS     Chonlakorn    sda5-6" makes it booting to sda5.
choosing "Tony     sda11" makes it booting into sda11 as planned, but. I do not get a screen with choices.sda11 is fully functional otherwise.
Choosing " linux ( this one I installed deliberately with a configuration fault ( user error  in resolution and graphics driver)which was know to me from previous installs ).
It hangs solid, because I do not get presented with an option to go into save mode
.It feels as if the system (sda11 and 12 ) totally ignore the time outs and read them as 0.0. As said before, there seems to be a flicker, but it is to short to be sure
I have changed the time out values to 100 to see....no change

Your master  grub menu.lst stanzas are all direct boot stanzas. Direct boot stanzas always boot directly with the kernel specified, into the / partition specified. They are behaving exactly as they should.

Chainloader stanzas present a second menu.lst boot menu, because they themselves do not select a kernel and / partition, only the location of the secondary menu.lst from which those choices can be made.

Thanks a lot.
I understand what you are saying, and will stick with chainloading.

However, I am confused to hell, to say the least, as what have I been doing the last 2 years.
I remember copying from menu.lst in sdaXX to menu.lst in sda5 all the time and every time.
I remember nothing about doing chainloading
But then, I also don't remember what I had for breakfast this morning, or even "if" I had breakfast.

I think it's time to swap the white pills for the yellow pills
