"Insufficient Rights" for (user) rather than (root & pWord)
« on: April 06, 2012, 02:00:44 PM »
Instead of the well known dialog prompting User (s) *** to type Root's PassWord to access CONFIGURE YOUR COMPUTER now i got a strange error "insufficient rights".
Tried (as root) to make all permissions possible, incl. the most needed one = for the Network (WiFi connections).
Happened after i made (the regular) full upgrading of a PCLOS2011, November. Got reasons to avoid the 2012 Feb installation on this laptop.
Pls hlp. thx, rgds

Could you be a little more  .... verbose ... with actual detail

What exactly have you tried?

Why avoid the latest release ? as this is teh supported method of install at this time

1. Has it been regularly upgraded since install or only installed recently? In particular, what is the output of rpm -q rpm?

2. Which desktop are you using?

3. Have you tried creating another user to see whether it works properly there?

Messing around with file permissions on processes which should run as root is not a good idea as it will adversely impact your security.

In the meantime, you can open pcc by opening a console, su-ing to root and then typing pcc.

In addition to the above posts, if you have an install of PCLinuxOS, and it is up to date, it is the current issue. So there really is no way to avoid the current release.

In other words, there is little to no difference between installing the current release and installing an older one and updating it. Except that the latter takes more time.   ;)
