Install 2012.02 on ASUS K72J

Have successfully installed latest version on my old tower.  Love PCLinuxOs and want to install on my main computer, ASUS K72J.

The iso image boots up perfectly with my old tower.  However when booting to my asus, the display shows the boot screen, which then turns to scrolling text.  When the scrolling text stops, I get a blank screen with a cursor (non blinking) at the top left of my screen.  I have downloaded the iso again, burnt it to a dvd and after the scrolling text had a black screen, no curser.  Knowing the next screen should be language selection, with nothing on display I hit enter.  The dvd drive was working for a few minutes, still nothing on the display.  After the dvd finished, all I had, was a black screen.  As an experiment, I right clicked, pressed enter and heard the dvd drive running so I think it was recognizing the mouse, just no display.

This same dvd boots fine on my tower.

Any suggestions?

Try copy to ram

Let us know what happens.
Also, watch the scrolling text and tell the last message displayed

OK, here is my progress:  Booted using safe boot.  I logged in as guest.  That gave me [guest@localhost ~]$.

Looked like a terminal to me so I typed "ls" and it showed Desktop/ Downloads, etc, as if I were in my "home" directory.

What do I do next?  As I am familiar with the command line, I am just a novice and can do basic command line functions.

Can you run lspci -nnk and post the output here? (ask if not sure how).

If I am right, once I am logged in safe mode, am I in a terminal and just type lspci-nnk?  Then how do I capture the screen shot and save it?  Can it be saved to a USB?

In LM, I was able to get this results in terminal.  Hope this is what is needed.

Is LM Linux Mint? In any case the output shows which driver should be used (assuming LM works correctly)

I expect the driver ''fglrx_pci'' is included on the PCLinuxOS install CD, but am unsure why in may not be loading, I'm also unsure why it would then if not loaded, not drop back to the ''radeon'' driver, or ''vesa'' or even ''fbdrv'' so, I could easily be on the wrong track.

EDIT: I'm assuming a video driver problem as you indicate the OS runs from the CLI and you can access files.

Sorry for the abbreviations.  LM does stand for Linux Mint.  Running Ver 10 which will end it's life probably this month and looking for a KDE replacement.  Also booted Linux Mint 12 KDE which works fine.  I have tried other live cd's and dvd's from other systems and PCLinuxOS seems to be the only one that will not boot up,  naturally the one that I want to install. What irony is that? :-)

Have tried downloading PLLinuxOS 3 times, burning to dvd and one time it gave me a black screen and acted like it was running but saw nothing.  Another time - different dvd - and only got a grey screen with non blinking (-) in the top right hand corner.  Still don't want to give up and will keep trying.  Oh, by the way, I do have win7 on other partition on this laptop which I don't use, just didn't get rid of it.

Thanks Xenaflux for the link.  Yes, that appears to be what is happening with me.  However, I haven't delved as deep as you have with making a "taylor made" remaster system as you have.  I haven't given up yet.  I am downloading another .iso and will also download the mini KDE version.  Also, when the torrent link is up and running I may try downloading a version there.

Try a <....64 base...no 3D ....> driver. It's just above the "fglrx, radeon"

First, I downloaded a fresh copy of the distro.  Burnt to dvd and checked ok.  I do not see an option for fglrx, radeon but selected video safe mode fbdev which will boot.  However, the display is 800x800.  There is no other option to change resolution.  The only other option for the monitor shows Disabled.  With this display setting, the cursor flickers and disappears when hovering over selection but still able to press enter to open selection.

Am afraid to try an installation under this circumstance as if I do install and have no option for the display, I am back to square one.  Are there any other suggestions....I'm trying.  I guess this system doesn't like Radeon video cards.  Thanks
