PCL Backup and utility CD
« on: March 26, 2012, 07:47:44 PM »
Neal suggested awhile ago I post this here for discussion, etc.

Basically it's a 100% PCLinuxOS system for backup, rescue, disk
utility, etc.   Should be comparable to SystemRescueCD or
PartedMagic but I think it's more flexible and capable overall.

I happily use it every month for several monthly disk backups.

Use, evaluate, adopt, or whatever as it is 100% PCLinuxOS and
I cannot take it much further than the current iso.

Very stable so far and configured quite well IMO.

Here's the link :

any good therefore that I can do,
or any kindness that I can show
let me not defer nor neglect it,

Posting this from the live  PCL Backup and utility CD using Firefox .(within VirtualBox 4.1.10 )

First thing was just how fast and responsive it is.

Each app I tried opened fine.

Quick question - the 2  luckyBackup (super user)  links:

One opens requesting a password the other opens with no password request and shows the account as

Welcome to luckyBackup, guest :-)

All in all a very nice job.

Edit - quick screenshot

After pressing the green Download button on the Sourceforge page you should also see the following on the page:

Problems with the download? Please use this direct link, or try another mirror.

Select the try another mirror option and choose Heanet from the choices shown.

Note if the Download Icon appears before selecting the mirror, simply cancel it (Im using Firefox)

Edit - does this work

The current file is supposed to be 392.7MB

http://sourceforge.net/projects/obbackuprescue/files/

I have done one d/load and got a file of 375MB which I deleted.

Trying your directions I got access to a file of 375MB again.

I will not be d/loading again unless I am sure I am getting the correct file  :(

So, if I can find where on Heanet the file is stored I will try a direct download from there.

EDIT:
Found the page on Heanet and the file there seems to be 375MB !     Huh!?

http://ftp.heanet.ie/pub/sourceforge/o/ob/obbackuprescue/

Where are the MD5sum files?
Usually they are with the ISOs ......  but I have not seen any ......

I'm a little confused by this too, the file I downloaded from Heanet is 374.5M, the file listed on SourceForge claims to be 392.7M but downloads as 374.5M  ???

That aside it seems to work well, I did wonder if you could get the grub and the boot themes to tie together but so far that's my only comment

Hi,

My file manager gives those readings sometimes, but the correct size
is 392.7.     I think it's the file manager misreading the size for some
reason.

I should have put some #788999 blue in the boot screen.

Thanks for the comment.

Hi,

The iso was made with medium compression, not maximum compression
so on my machine it runs a tad bit faster as a LiveUSB.

LuckyBackup could certainly do with one menu entry.    Could be some backups
are done with just guess access.   It was packaged like that.

Thanks for the comment.
