mylivecd: failed
« on: March 25, 2012, 07:38:20 AM »
HI friends:

I try to make mylivecd, like i did it always and this time failed; according to the output in the console should the iso file be somewhere, but i don't now where!! I did it yesterday as user and today as root an the result is the same, here is the output (yesterday):

[root@localhost rudy]# umount -a
umount: /home: device is busy.
(In some cases useful info about processes that use
the device is found by lsof(8) or fuser(1))
umount: /: device is busy.
(In some cases useful info about processes that use
the device is found by lsof(8) or fuser(1))
[root@localhost rudy]# mylivecd rudymarch.2012.iso

I created an ISO yesterday and used the following command:

mylivecd --gzip --md5sum add-name-gzip.iso

Hi,

the maximum compressed size that mylivecd can actually manage is 4GiB ~= 4.3 GB,
which correspond approx. to 10/12 GB of uncompressed data.

The above message is telling you that you are exceeding the maximum allowed size.

7 hours and 32 minutes ? Really ?  ???
Either you are trying to remaster a very large amount of data, your machine is very slow or both.  ;)

It looks to me as if /home was not unmounted. That would explain what AS is saying. Is /home a separate partition or a directory in the root partition?

I needed to clear the downloads & tmp folders in order to get below the size limit.
Downloaded files and old .iso files really add up.
There are mylivecd command line switches to exclude certain folders too.

dev/sda1  31  GB (total space)  / (mount as system)  18.4 GB (free space)    full: 40.5%
dev/sda3  30.2 GB                  / Windows XP            18.5 GB                    full : 39   %
dev/sda6  15.5 GB                  / home                     11.3 GB                    full : 27 %

I see that combined , system partition and home makes :  16.8 GB, which is really over the 10-12 GB recomended.
So i think  should try to compress and use the option given I will try it and come back comenting the results.
The process of making mylivecd went very long, and the only explanation could be that i have not only KDE, but LXDE , Gnome and Open
Box installed, and i had done previously last year mylivecd i had not used that amount of time, than i had only Gnome and KDE installed and probably lot less programs. I have a 2.66 GHZ Processor and only around 780 MB Ram.

HI AS:

Thank for your answer, her down

dev/sda1  31 GB (total space)  / (mount as system)  18.4 GB (free space)    full: 40.5%
dev/sda3

lobster,

1) clean up your system running "Bleachbit" and "Bleachbit Root"
2) remove large packages you know you can do without, if any ...
3) try something like this:

Quote
su
umount -a
mylivecd  --gzip  --nodir  ^/home  /tmp/rudymarch.2012.iso

The above may still fail, but should be much faster, and will  not include your /home directory at all ...
We don't have enough info to help you more that that ... your root partition look like having 13 GB used ... probably still too much...

+1  You haven't shown the actual mount points. For example:

Thank for your answer, here down is the disk space :

dev/sda1  31  GB (total space)  / (mount as system)  18.4 GB (free space)    full: 40.5%
dev/sda3  30.2 GB                  / Windows XP            18.5 GB                    full : 39   %
dev/sda6  15.5 GB                  / home                     11.3 GB                    full : 27 %

If your Windows partition is actually mounted as /WindowsXP, mylivecd will attempt to include it in the iso image, unless it is excluded. How about posting the results of mount run in a terminal as regular user?

Bare metal                           VBox
AMD Athlon 7750 Dual-Core    Single core
4GiB RAM                              1GiB RAM
nVidia GeForce FX 5200          64MB video
LXDE 32bit                            KDE 64bit

Nope, if you compress the data on your disk, they will not be further compressible from mylivecd ... that is something like reducing the maximum amount of data to 8/9 GB instead of 10/12 GB ...   ;)

Hi Johnston:

Her are the mount results fron the console:

[rudy@localhost ~]$ mount
/dev/sda1 on / type ext4 (rw,commit=0)
none on /proc type proc (rw)
none on /dev/pts type devpts (rw)
/dev/sda6 on /home type ext4 (rw,commit=0)
none on /proc/sys/fs/binfmt_misc type binfmt_misc (rw)
gvfs-fuse-daemon on /home/rudy/.gvfs type fuse.gvfs-fuse-daemon (rw,nosuid,nodev,user=rudy)
/dev/sda3 on /media/WINXP-1 type fuseblk (rw,nosuid,nodev,allow_other,blksize=4096)

i never heared that mylivecd would try to include Windows ! , that not the first time i did mylivecd and was always using the same configuration. The HD is s SEAGATE with 80GB, and there are 4 partitions:  three of them for PCLINUXOS (system, swap, home) and one for Windows XP.

thank you for your help!
