update notifier issues

Lately update notifier has been misleading me, telling me that there are updates available, but when I open synaptic and reload, it says I am up to date. After closing synaptic update notifier again does a check and comes up as fully updated. Weird!!

It's still doing it, any suggestions?. As noted in my first post, the system has always been kept fully updated.

Left-click the update-notifier icon. Select Exit from the popup window. Start it again from the menu entry in Software Center.

Thanks for the suggestion, before i saw it I took the plunge and reinstalled using the latest ISO, leaving Home untouched and all worked out ok.
