Get resolution to start at boot up?
« on: March 24, 2012, 12:46:45 PM »
Okay, so I didn't know where else to post this, but since I am having this problem on a laptop I thought I might as well just post it on here.

Basically I just installed PCLinuxOS on my Compaq Presario CQ60 which has a Celeron 900, intel integrated graphics, and 3gb of ddr2 800 ram.

When I boot up, it starts the resolution at 1024x768 (I think), so I go into the settings and change it to normal which is 1366x768. It changes to normal without a problem, but I was just wondering how can I set it so that it's automatically on that resolution on boot so that I don't have to change it every time I turn on my laptop.

Thanks,
BloodyRory

Which desktop environment?

If it's KDE, try setting up the resolution in PCC ("Configure Your Computer"), not systemsettings ("Configure Your Desktop").

If it is KDE you can also open a terminal
type su and press the enter key
then enter your root password again press the enter key
at the root prompt type XFdrake again press the enter key

from there you will get a popup dialog box where you can set up your graphics

If KDE is what stock is then yes. I'll try that in a little bit once the parents get off my laptop.

Yes I guess it was KDE. Thank you, this worked. That was my problem, I was going to Configure your desktop, not Configure your computer.

If you want to change your resolution temporarily, Configure Your Desktop is very useful. If you want to set up a default resolution, do it in PCC.

After the resolution change, did you set as default?. There is a button for that. I did not, the first time and default to 1024X768. Went back to display settings and, this time, I did click on set as default. It works.
