New Wacom (CTH-470) update
« on: March 23, 2012, 12:58:09 PM »
There was (is?) an older thread that is still unresolved...if any mods think this should have been part of it, please move.  Thanks.

I tried the 3.2 kernel out of Testing (3.2.12-pclos3.pae) for the express purpose of seeing if it would get this tablet working.
No dice.

I would be willing to try it again, if anyone has any suggestions (additional software to install, settings to change, etc.)

I deleted the kernel, as it didn't seem to place nice with my NICs (the wired one connected, but was reported by the KDE Network system tray tool as not connected).  It also wouldn't list any wireless networks, because "wl wouldn't load".  So, no keeping it, for now.

The cth-470 is one of the first of the 3rd gen. tablet; it need driver later than oct. 2011.
On the french forum of another distro that almost make me scream, i find simple instructions for the cth-470. I get that distro with kernel 2.6.38, use http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/linuxwacom/input-wacom-0.12.0.tar.bz2 as a kernel driver, sudo it into the 2.6.38 kernel and voilĂ ! The Xdriver needed for the driver is xf86-input-wacom, probably not the same as the one in PCLOS (X11-driver-imput-wacom). I test it briefly: it work. Of course i know that sudo is a no-no here; that why i use another distro ;D
I will do tests on GIMP tomorrow. On sourceforge, i have seen a new driver:input-wacom-0.12.1.tar.bz2. Now, if i can do something similar in PCLOS...

Request an update in "Package Request" section.  ;)

I reinstall the ...bun... distro i have, install the newest kernel driver, input-wacom-0.12.1.tar.bz2 and always the same problem: if i don't activate the tablet in gimp, you can draw but the pressure won't work. If you activate it, even only one wacom entry, each line you draw extrude himself in 3-d, making the tablet unusable. On the other distro forum, they talk about a 11,10 bug. There is also a GUI configuration menu for the tablet but i don't know if it is the same as the one you can get via synaptic.
Next step: get earlier version of ...bun... to see how the kernel driver behave before make a package request except if one of you have a better idea.

After some googling, i have find that the problem was in that particular GIMP. I also find a patch to solve that little problem!
I am going to ask for those drivers in the package request section.

I'll re-install the kernel, and post back.

support for the above device has been introduced in kernel 3.3 ...
I will provided a new kernel within few days, either 3.3 or 3.2.x with support backported from 3.3 to 3.2.x  ;)

The network monitor in the KDE tray fails to recognize it:

This may be solved by updating drakx-net, drakx-net-text, libdrakx-net to version 0.87-11 available in testing repo.
(this is required for any kernel above 3.0)

Thanks AS!

Updating the drakx components, now.  Will wait on the new (version or backported) kernel in testing, and will let everyone know how it goes!

Awesome!

The new kernel drivers need a companion xorg driver xf86-input-wacom, not the one in the PCLOS reposit (X11-driver-imput-wacom). See the readme in the new drivers archive. I do a package request yesterday, http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,103811.0.html.

I do understand that the 2.6.3* kernels need the updated driver for the new Wacom tablets.  What I'm testing here is the support built into the 3.2 kernel (and, apparently for my particular device, it is still missing).  AS has indicated that it should be supported in the 3.3 kernel, and that he will be producing a TEST kernel of this (i.e., not in the regular PCLOS repos).  Failing that, he may attempt to backport those updates to the 3.2 kernel.  I've elected to, at this time, wait for that update in order to test the "native" support.

Thanks.

Of course, we will take care of that!

erripe,
Could you post the output of lsusb with the tabled plugged in ? So we can verify the IDs ?
