Config & play DVD
« on: March 23, 2012, 11:38:50 AM »
Greetings!  I have an external DVD player connected to my PC running PCLinuxOS and I cannot get the device to recognize nor play a DVD.  Is there some steps I have missed after installation of PCLinux to make this device function.  I have VLC installed and UMplayer.  But, I cannot seem to get anywhere with viewing a dvd.  I have received an error message: "VLC media player: your imput can't be opened.  VLC is unable to open MRL 'dvd:///dev/dvd'  Check the log for details.  Any suggestions?  Thanks.

Code: [Select]

Your device is identified as /dev/sr1, the flavor is still unknown as all recent PCLinuxOS are using the same kernel 2.6.38.8-pclos3.bfs.
Which ISO did you installed from ?

I am not real sure what you are asking.  I had been having many problems with Fedora 16, so I tried the Fedora 16 LXDE spin download for 32-bit PC.  It was a direct download and I burned a live-cd.  It was an easy install.  Don't know what else to tell you.  Thanks.

Give the name of the ISO you downloaded please ......  that will give the required information.

Here's what I found: ISO 9660  Livecd.sqfs  (516.9 MB)  last modified 1/22/2012; Lightweight X11
That's all I know.

That sounds correct; I do not know where to find that specific information, however.  Thanks.

One way to identify which PCLinuxOS release you are using is to copy and paste the download address (including the iso) that you downloaded.  If you paste it in a reply we can see precisely which version/release you are using.

i.e. the following is one of the download addresses for the PCLinuxOS lxde version released in January 2012

http://ftp.nluug.nl/ibiblio/distributions/pclinuxos/pclinuxos/live-cd/pclinuxos-lxde-2012.01.iso

PCLinuxOS 32bit KDE 4.10.1; kernel-3.4.11-pclos1.bfs & 64bit 3.2.18bfs; NVidia GeForce 8400GS 1GB 310.19 driver

Sony Vaio SVE1513A4ESI Laptop, Intel Core i5, 2.6GHz, 6GB RAM, 750GB, 15.6" Intel HD Graphics 4000

You really do need to decide whether you are running PCLinuxOS or Fedora Linux .........  if the latter then you are in the wrong forum !
