Those 'errors' are normal .......  and do not prevent VLC correctly opening here.

I tried running from the terminal and got the same errors. I've used VLC frequently and never noticed a problem, but this time the audio was not working. I have removed PulseAudio, so I went to the menu and changed the audio output like this:

Tools -> Preferences -> Audio -> Output module: -> Alsa audio output

Now, everything works for me. (I know that this is not the same problem as the program not running, but I thought this may be helpful to someone.)

Many thanks to all,
I installed quite a few bits that seemed to be related to making sounds and lo.... both VLC and Dragon Player now work.
I am about to create a LiveCD of the system..for safety reasons.
Again many thanks.

OK, my first post here, since lurking from early 2011, after a search on what I'm most concerned about, VLC,
this is the most recent thread.
How well does this distro keep up with the Windows versions of VLC?
For instance, I still use W2kP because I refuse [so far] to buy that Redmond stuff
that requires activation. If any of you know, VLC 2.0.x doesn't run on 2000 until
you patch with one of the unofficial kernels or the Unofficial Update Rollup from
the MSFN or RyanVM boards.
I only bring this up because I'm thinking of moving from the Mandriva distro, in which their
port of VLC seems to be lagging way behind the Windows versions, in that the Win version
I'm using now 1.1.11, has more options for viewing aspect ratios in downloaded vids than the
Mandriva port has, or at least to my "Mandriva Flash" usb stick which seems limited to the 2010 upgrades.
I'll check as the stick has crashed again and will need rebuilding from the included rescue mini-CD.
(this seems to happen after every 8-11 months of use) Though it doesn't look like Mandriva will release
a 2011 or 2012 version of the "Flash", just their PowerPack, which doesn't come in a stick/CD package.
Though the way it looks, the "Flash" may have been designed to just act as a preview, as it is equivalent
to the "Mandriva One" package, with the icon/option to install locally like a 'live' CD.

So is your distro here up to ver 2.0.1 yet? or where does it stand at?

Thank you for any and all replies.
