No Sound in PClinuxOS

  I installed PCLinuxOS Lightweight x-11 on my pc with the only OS.  I have no sound in Firefox browser.  I have no sound in DVD or YOUTube.  I am unable to listen to cd.  I did an alsaconf for my sound card which is X-Fi SB.  I am at a loss what to attempt next.  Any suggestions?  Thanks.

Funny you should mention that...
I've had a problem with sound as well and of similar type.  I played around with Mint Linux 2012.2 KDE and had to do a complete reload to get functional again.

Run alsaconfig again and let it run its schemes.  If it doesn't find your sound chip it will ask if you want to search for a legacy chip.  Let it.  It will (probably) display a stone age driver.  Let it.  Then, try it.

Might work.  Mine is working now.

I am NOT an expert but strangely the same problem popped up in another thread concerning LXDE.  You said you ran alsaconf, but did you run it as root?  See below.

Yes, I ran alsaconf again and it went through the steps finding my sound card.  It says it's ready to go, enjoy. I was in root when I did this.  One time after going through the alsaconf steps I ran alsamixer and received the message: "Pulseaudio: unable to connect: connection refused.  I am unsure what that means??  Any ideas?  Thanks.

Hey thanks for the responses and assistance.  I went slowly through all the above suggested steps and did a final check of external speaker cables and the no sound was resolved.  Thanks a bunch, y'all!
