Calibre 0.8.43
« on: March 21, 2012, 04:15:06 PM »
Calibre on 32 bit laptop broken.
Calibre updated: calibre (0.7.32-3pclos2012) to 0.8.43-1pclos2012
Then rebooted.

Nothing happens when clicked on in Office.
In terminal shows:
[jim@localhost ~]$ calibre
bash: calibre: command not found
Same as root.
If it ain't fixed, don't broke it!

uninstall calibre, then install the new version again and see if that helps.

I just updated (previous update yesterday) and calibre didn't even show in the menu. Reinstalled and now seems OK.

I gather from the Package Update thread this is split off from the problem is solved. Can you please edit the subject in your first post to include the word SOLVED so people don't keep trying to help you.

info on the new Calibre 0.8.43 package:
we now have the latest version 0.8.43 for both, 32 and (new) 64 bit systems.
However, due to the completely new setup of Calibre it is not possible to update the program from the earlier 0.7.x 32bit version. If you use a 0.7.x version, please first uninstall this old version before installing the new version 0.8.43 .
thanks,

I just noticed that calibre-64 was available. WoooHooo!
Immediately downloaded.
Makes me really itchy for the 64bit.iso final.
Great work all.  ;D

One problem with Calibre! It's already on 0.8.44.  ???
The Calibre developers have  a once a week update policy.
So on every Friday there is a updated release available!

Well, this is an interesting perspective  ???  from Calibre's download page:

Quote
Download for linux

The latest release of calibre is 0.8.44. What's new.

Please do not use your distribution provided calibre package, as those are often buggy/outdated. Instead use the Binary install described below.

How do ya like them apples?
Bare metal                           VBox
AMD Athlon 7750 Dual-Core    Single core
4GiB RAM                              1GiB RAM
nVidia GeForce FX 5200          64MB video
LXDE 32bit                            KDE 64bit

just upgraded our package to 0.8.44 for 32 and 64bit, and sent to dropbox.
This package has the new feature to now also update from a previous Calibre package, so you do no longer need to uninstall your existing older version before installing the latest version. Of course our package can also properly uninstall Calibre because our spec-file properly removes all files installed by Calibre. So, our package works fine  ;D

cool, I have a suggestion: wouldn't you be interested in helping updating rpm-packages? You could then start with Calibre...  ;D

Well, I know that one would be simple [enough]..... (occasionally I submitted some packages in the past - still have to request access to current dropbox)
=> at the moment, I'm too busy.... but when getting a little time on hands, I've some packages to update / convert to 64bit rpms.... - I'll ask access to dropbox-folder then  ;)
And this depends on how well some of my other projects work out next weeks.... maybe I have time within some weeks, else it could be a little longer  :)

Updated  0.8.44 via nluug mirror an did get a duplicate  ( 0.8.43 and 0.8.44  are installed).
Removed 0.8.43 via synaptic.
Got command no found starting via konsole
Removed 0.8.44 again and changed to the pclosusers mirror and installed 0.8.43 again and did working correctly.
Guess there is something wrong with the 0.8.44 package?

JohnW

Edit:  issue found:  calibre-0.8.44-1pclos2012.src.rpm  is the cause   ;D  after checking nluug.
