New user. Repo speed test fails on all - and can't get any new packages

I just installed PCLinuxOS. I then set up my internet connection. It is active. When I go to "Update Package Source List" at first it tells me that it connected, but then when it does the "repo speed test" each and every repo comes back as "FAILED"

Why is that happening? I am connected to the internet.

I went to the Synaptic Package Manager, and hoped maybe it really is connected, but I don't think it has updated anything.

What am I doing wrong?

As root, make a backup copy of your current sources list.

su
cp /etc/apt/sources.list /etc/apt/sources.list_orig

Then scroll down to step 5 of this post. Copy the quoted text as root and paste it into a text editor. Save the file as /etc/apt/sources.list. Then try the repo speed test again.

What is the full, exact, name of the image you used to install from?

HEY! Suddenly the speed test is NOT failing. I didn't do anything different. Did you all fix something?

Well, one new problem. I tried downloading Pyroom (word processor). Upon installation it said:

APT system reports:
E: Transaction Set Check Failed

It didn't install. What does that mean?

Did you do a full system upgrade first? Synaptic --> Reload --> Mark All Upgrades --> Apply then Apply again from the confirmation window?

Maybe it would be good to have a "What to do first after installation" pinned announcement in PCLinuxOS General News and Announcements and Usage Rules.

I could swear we had something like that including a "How to correctly update" announcement ... but I am probably dreaming again.
