Audio is listed as ATI device 1314 in pci devices, and lspci.

First problem was mixer gadget would not show up in shelf when added. Could access it from extensions in settings.

Second problem was no audio using any program for audio playback.

Second problem was resolved by enabling pulseaudio in audio settings of control center.

Still no mixer gadget.

Have not had to enable pulseaudio on any other pc.

This iso has worked fine in every other pc except for an old dell that I couldn't get any version of linux to work on.

kernel 2.6.38.8-pclos3.a64

Sound is currently working. I just don't understand why I had to enable pulseaudio and why the mixer gadget won't show up in the shelf.

Your PC has HDMI so initially it is likely that the sound streams were being sent to that sound sink.

If you do not use the HDMI connection normally, you can turn off that device from the drop-down menu on the configuration tab.
If that is done then all sound will be sent to the remaining sound sink.

I don't know anything about that E17 desktop unfortunately, but there are several Mixer apps in the repos ......  or you can use the volume control of pavucontrol to alter the volume.
