I take it that "Canon DPP" is software that came with the camera?  If that is the case, it is Windows software, and not supported on Linux, I presume.

As far as getting the images...do you have access to a card reader that supports your camera's card format?  My Canon uses Compact Flash, but I would guess that yours uses SD (Secure Digital).  If find the card reader approach the simplest and most reliable.  It is just a straight file copy from the card to my directory of choice (usually within my "Pictures" folder).  Digikam supports many RAW formats including Canon's, so once the images are copied, it should be able to handle them directly.  I also use UFRaw in conjunction with GIMP for more complex editing...

I find using the camera to copy the pictures very hit and miss (not to mention, slowwwwwwwwwww........).

If you can get one (maybe a $20-$40 investment, for a multi-card reader?), it really does make a world of difference.

It does work in DigiKam. To get photos from camera:
Go to Import, Add Camera and select auto detect. The T1i will listed as 500D.

So, does it work for you?

I got old Dell D600. No card reader. Digicam see my camera, but will not let me download the raw.

Or does it not?

???
I'm confused.

Where are you (generally) located, and what might the cost of a multi-card reader be in your locality?

Does work in Digikam. I can download the photos. Not much of future for DPP in Linux, but the digikam is OK.

Well, you never responded to my question about what DPP is, or where you're getting it from, so I have to still go with my original assumption that is it Windows software from the Canon CD.  The chances of it working really well under Wine are unknown (to me, at this time).  If Canon is going to support Linux, that is a question to be asked of Canon.

If it is a work-flow for RAW images you're looking for, there are many native Linux applications that can handle RAW images, so it becomes a question of getting those images onto your PC.  If you cannot transfer them directly from your camera (but can transfer the JPG images, I presume), then I still maintain that a card reader is going to be the easiest solution.

If you're happy with your current workflow with digiKam, then I guess that's it...

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Digital Photo Professional and Canon OES utility is win software. Some reported to work under Wine, but it is a lot of work and I am too lazy for that.
I am able to download from my camera, trough usb cable, using Digikam. I do have some other RAW processing software installed. So far, I ma happy with what I got. Thank you for help.
