Is this update issue affecting only xfce or also kde pclos?
No problems -in my knowlege- for PCLinuxOS KDE installations.  :)  And that's is a good thing.

I have started a new thread in software for my issue being that it is KDE.

Yes, Nish: I have read, your first post in your new thread about your problem to reach your KDE desktop.
But, I think that -maybe- your problem is NOT related with this specific thread.
Your problem seems me to be relate with some difficult to read something (about KDE specific settings) into the User Home folder (in my opinion, your problem can be that some settings in you User profile aren't readable for System)... I'm NOT sure of it, obviously, but that seem me a logical answer...

SOLVED!  :)

You are greats!
All you!
I'm on my Phinx Desktop (PCLinuxOs XFCE-mini), now: I have uninstalled all "tetex" and tetex-related packages, and -after- I have installed the "texlive" package. Then, the Kile package, the LyX package and the TeXmacs packages.
After this, I have installed all XFCE desktop-environment.
And -good news- all work good!... Thank you!  :D

I know than Phinx Edition iso NOT an "supported" (on this forum) ISO, but... it's an XFCE PCLinuxOS the same, and... if the PCLinuxOS updates, now, works good and ringht here, then, work good and right everywere on PCLinuxOS (Phoenix Edition inclused).
You have solved all issues, all update-related problem. Good work, people! Now, updates work great, in all my PCLinuxOS installations.  :)

Yes, Nippur: we can update safely. On my System (non the Phinx only, but the second-Phoenix also), all work good, now.
On all my PCLinuxOS installation, Synaptic works good and I haven't problems.
Of course, some packages cannot be installed, in this time, but NOT for "problems": only because -I suppose- they need to be upgraded (due the texlive successful recent updgrade). This is true -for example- for the "texlive-latex" package and some others.
But -and THIS is important- now, we can install safely the Kile package, the LyX package, the texlive package, the TeXmacs package... and all they work very good and without any problem (no-problems by Synatptic, now; no problems on the System).
The PCLinuxOS crews has worked (and is working every day) very very good, to solve all problems, I think.

Good things come in small packages. From small minds, not so much.

zorlac i havent had chance to test today ... i would advise until all the new updates are synced with the repo you follow these steps :D
Since I (luckily) didn't update into this quicksand & my systems working great I think I'm just gonna sit tight for a few months.  ;D :o
I updated my XFCE installation today without doing anything special and I was able to reboot with no immediate issues noted.
Just installed Evince too, nice!!!!
I did have to remove the xfce4-weather-plugin before LOmanager would update to ver 3.5.1.2 for some reason though.
Muchas gracias Guys!
