How to install wine on an older (2009) PCLinuxOS distro?
« on: March 11, 2012, 10:17:36 AM »
Please don't flame me for asking this question.

I do have the latest PCLinux installed on one of my computers ... however, I also still have the older (it just works better for me) 2009 PCLinuxOS version on a couple of older thinkpad laptops, and I would like to be able to install wine on them.  But I cannot find a synaptic repository from which I could do that.

Is there still a repository somewhere from which I could install wine?

Or is there some other way by which I could do that?

The older 2007-2010 installs are not supported by the forum, if you search the forum though you will find reference to a forum member that still hosts a static repo for that release , it is old out of date and potentially a security liability.

I would suggest  that you reinstall with the latest version, so that we may support any issues you have.

remember that if it works, it will be a very old version of wine, limited success

there could be a way to make a new version of wine to work on a old install but sounds too complex to do just to run a couple of windows apps, sometimes virtualized xp running them is more simple
