how to configure a printer. Which is better option?
« on: March 09, 2012, 04:55:47 AM »
It is probably a very newbie question. I beg your perdon for that.

I have configurated a multifunction canon mp630 printer through hardware control center wizard and it works fine, it recognized the printer at first with ipp protocol.  (congrats pclos team) 8)

But, I missed some features like ink level, scanner and so on. My questions:

  • It is better to configure the printer with drivers provided, or download the rpm canon official driver?
In case of to install by official canon driver. How is the process? First to install the driver and then install with control center, and how to use the driver?

Thanks in advance.
Regards

There is a cnijfilter-mp600 driver in Synaptic.  I don't know if that will work for you, as I do not have this device.

Thank you pags. I'll try this.

The issue that I noted with default pclos system print driver is that all printed pages are using the back tray and not the principal tray (this is a problem because the back tray is for manual insert photo papers and one to one printing,  and in the principal try you can use an automatic and continuous printing).
The system does not show the ink level, and can't configure several options like two face printing, choose the try to print, or the quality of paper.
Can't use te scanner also.

Is for that, if is it better to use the canon rpm or is there any aditional configuration that I forget?

Sorry.  Not sure.  I have an HP printer, and there is an HP-Toolbox type program in Synaptic that allows configuring, checking ink levels, etc.  I do not see a similar Canon oriented program, but I'm not sure what I'm looking for...

Well, I recently had a problem with a third party rpm that forced me to restore the system, so we wondered whether it is good to use the canon rpm from outside of synaptic repositories.

Thanks anyway.
